Drexx give live birth to a larva-like infant. There can be anywhere from 1-6. The larva will eat non stop until they form a chrysalis in a month. Much later they emerge as a young pup, about the size of a human toddler. #StarDate #Alien #SpecEvo #SpecBio

Fog blankets the pillar plains. A weary polar broadhead haphazardly drags his kill from the previous night back to his makeshift rubble den, made in the crevice of a petrified root tree. He pauses, mouth agape, expecting the scent of thieves circling near his pile. As he looks toward the sky, a colossal shadow engulfs the ground below. A hissing, guttural screech booms off the pillars as it crashes nearby. It whistles, whines, and writhes as it succumbs to its injuries and the effects of old age. The. broadhead slips behind rubble, hackles raised, catching wind that scavengers are high on the trail. Soon the mist stirs with hunger. Shapes creeping low, skittering, snarling, crowding the fallen giant. they tear, fight, and writhe atop still-living flesh as the spirit’s final whines echo thin and hollow.

Specbio design work for my alien creatures. I don't have a name for them yet, think I'll just refer to them as "Discerners", since they've taken a vow of knowledge and their society is built around studying the world that they live in and reality altogether (as well as themselves).
A digital illustration showing a creature design sheet. There are full bodies, portraits, hand and feet detail, and eye detail as well as wing detail of the creature that's designed. The animal has a quadrupedal body that is shaped like a cheetah's, mixed with a meerkat. Its torso is long, with an extended pointy tail. The front arms are more like human arms, with opposable thumbs and four fingers on each hand. They sit upright like humans. On their backs are folds that contain wings that are like bug wings, that unfold when opened. The colors of the creature are brown, tan, blue, and cream. The eyes are yellow, and have nictitating membranes. The face of the animal is dog-like, but with a pointy hooked nose that looks sort of beak like. Their nose is bright blue, and their teeth are sharp and carnivorous.

Just read South Scrimshaw with a bunch of folks and legitimately fantastic and exemplary specbio work on the tie between how information can be presented literally/sterile but still hold a lot of emotionality in its strokes. when the credits said "This Visual Novel" i stood up and screamed in joy

Was talking to someone doing specbio for their hard SF writing and they were worried about getting the latin/greek incorrect for the formal scientific name of one of their alien species and I had to point out all the real-world species with incorrect latin/greek in their formal names

also i have loose specbio headcanons about multiples being more common among inkfish and several other sapient species than they were for humans but in practice that requires me to commit to giving more ocs twins and then making those twins into full characters .

An infographic species sheet of the gattakangeli (skywyrms), shown with two main species (greater western and eastern) and are located in the Pyrkos and Klagut continents in Drachor. They are considered to be lungids and to be larger than the average nari (Dracoghoul). Male skywyrms have distinctive and vibrant crests alongside wings whereas female skywyrms are dull and smaller, alongside not having intricate wing patterns.

A full infographic sheet about the amu, otherwise known by the Anthroposphere (humans and their alien allies) as "faelings". Shown here are six various variations, including a domesticated version with loads of text as well as a map distribution for Drachor. These are lungids - true flying paramammals that are sometimes dubbed as "true wyverns" sometimes. These amu are part of a single family divided up into three genera or major types of their own kind.

Morphology The Mosaic Plate Bug is one of Shainor's largest land animals, spanning 4-6 meters in length. Its flat, wing-like shell is full of pores, which keeps the animal much lighter than its bulk suggests. The main body moves on six jointed legs, while another eight pseudo-legs can expand and contract to help the animal balance over uneven ground or soft soil. Its mandibles are broad and serrated, made for raking through mats of algae. Ecology These giants move in herds of about 6-10, sweeping through the open algae fields in wide arcs. As they graze, they strip patches completely bare, but this actually allows the algae to regrow thicker and healthier. In this way, the herds shape the plains around them, leaving behind shifting "grazing scars" that cycle with the seasons. Behavior Mosaic Plate Bugs are calm, with no real difference between males and females. They live without hierarchy, more like a loose family than a structured herd. To communicate, they push air through the chambers of their porous wings, sending deep, rolling vibrations across the ground. These low sounds keep the herd connected over long distances and can double as a warning when a threat gets too close. Because of their sheer size and armored plates, though, they don't have many natural threats. Most of the time, they wander undisturbed.
