So far, I haven't found a match for this captivating photograph of a sparrowhawk. I suspect this was taken by a professional, but who?

Hayward had an interest in natural history – and some of the slides in the collection reflect this – but wildlife photography was in its infancy and a highly specialist niche, so I wonder if perhaps these were purchased by him, maybe for educational use in the classroom.

This cracking EURASIAN SPARROWHAWK made a visit to our Stanway garden this morning. He came away empty-taloned but sure he will be back! #essexbirding #gardenbirds #birds #birding #birdphotography #naturephotography

Unfortunately it’s going to be one or the other! Haven’t seen a Sparrowhawk round our way in a while but that’s probably because of the local Kestrel families on patrol 😺

She looks up at a crow perching above her then tears after it, banking and accelerating into the trees like a sparrowhawk. The crow escapes, and caws a warning to its gang. @fabperegrines.bsky.social

Great idea but I think it's the sparrowhawk that's putting them off!

Very nice RLZ, but a Cooper's Hawk has no business in Manchester in the UK. If it was it would be a very notable rarity or an escaped bird.
Mine is a juvenile Sparrowhawk (Accipter nisus)

Parakeets and jackdaws were making a real racket in my garden. Turns out a sparrowhawk had caught a pigeon.

Just checked the feeders at Lytchett Bay and nearly got hit in the face by a sparrowhawk! It came straight towards me at eye level then veered off at the last second. All birds & squirrels scattered. Amazing. @ianballam.bsky.social @narwhalsh.bsky.social

Wow! But you live opp a park if I remember rightly? Its magpie, wood pigeon and collared dove central here, and a sparrowhawk (juvenile I think) flew in and sat on the terrace fence for about 20 mins in July. Would love to attract some cheeky jackdaws, but it's not really their kind of habitat.

Love this Sparrowhawk drawing, those tones are awesome. If you are into coming of age fantasy, The Shoreline or The Inbetween are on Kindle Unlimited, what medium did you use?

I've lost count of the Sparrowhawks I've ringed, and I can assure you, madam, that that Sparrowhawk was of the female persuasion.

This young Sparrowhawk flew the length of the big quarry at Berry Head. Flying along the rockface it lunged at a little bird but failed to catch it.
It flew up to a perch just 10 metres from where I stood and stayed some minutes looking for more ambush opportunities!
