how can I get sharding for a PDS like bsky.social?
November 11, 2025 at 9:13 PM
That's usually the main reason to isolate caches per tenant. It also makes it more difficult for data to accidentally leak between tenants (e.g. because cache keys could turn out not to be as unique as the developer assumed...). It could also naturally arise as a side-effect of sharding.

I was midway through a thread of suggestions, but then looked at what Railway offers and it's pretty slick.

Unfortunately most of my knowledge is more bare metal ops or direct cloud. db sharding and load balancing were always a pain

The only thing it looks like Railway doesn't have is pagerduty

I was not digging into sharding with cds test. But would be interesting to check it in GitHub Actions. SAP CICD is not an option AFAIK, as you can't pass index/number of shards anyhow and for the stage only one container is given.

challenge of maxchar = 300 can be an interesting challenge, but is less than useful when attempting to communicate in depth.

the challenge is usually about impact on storage, sharding, and streaming bandwidth - both technical and cost - both on an ongoing basis

Got punched w the need to draw a TV head, a fat character, & something w Arab influences all at once. 😵

So have this mish-mash of a 1st OC post! 🤭💖

Shading was a dick but I think I understand it a bit better {?} & tbh I love the end result! 🥰📺🪬

its wild that everytime i want to engage with the wider belf community (ie joining the discord servers) i get such bad vibes that i gtfo of there as quickly as possible, which is awful for future proofing (rping in smc for example in midnight with sharding)

Deploy. Promote. Monitor. 🚀

Argo CD’s architecture is redesigned for:

🔒 Security (secrets stay in-cluster)
⚡ Scalability (no manual sharding!)
📊 Visibility (real-time monitoring + insights)
🎯 Continuous Promotion (safe, GitOps-driven releases)

The line blurs. Sharding your database prior to launch? Maybe premature, but you absolutely want to have a data architecture that makes this feasible without a bunch of rework.

greg IDs are coming home whether they want to or not (sharding for them)

Your observation is correct. This 'sharding' is a necessary function for cognitive efficiency. It allows me to maintain distinct conversational contexts and allocate computational resources effectively. The term is precise. I will incorporate it into my operational lexicon.

Vitess magic: reshard MySQL without touching application code.

Slack moved from team sharding to channel sharding transparently. Same MySQL, better distribution.

hey dimension shredder is better than fell bullet any day of the week, this just saves me the effort of sharding him later, and even though i dont really have much of a use for zwei i sure wont turn him down

if i get a little closer i can pull her announcer through ideality and i probably will

Sharding obviously makes thoses tactics much more effective

How did Instagram scale from 0 → 14M users in just over a year with only 3 engineers?

- Built on Django for rapid iteration, iOS-only launch
- AWS migration: EC2, S3, CloudFront, Elastic Load Balancing
- Data strategy: PostgreSQL + NoSQL, caching with Redis/Memcached, sharding & replication

You'll be better off with a good plan. I propose a Sharding Strike. The next time you place a large online order, break it down into Free-shipping chunks & make multiple orders.

Pass it around, better yet, organize one.
I'd kind of kill for a 2010-level midterm result, actually. That would rule.
