In old European folklore, houseleeks (Sempervivum tectorum) were grown on cottage roofs to guard against lightning and fire. Its little starry blooms and tight rosettes were thought to draw danger away from the hearth, keeping the household safe and sound. #FolkloreSunday

J'aime énormément les plantes grasses et notamment les sedum. Ils ont des couleurs super intéressantes qui changent avec la température et notamment ils rosissent au froid. Et toujours ces floraisons délicates et abondantes 🩷.

Un montage de 4 photos avec des jouebarbes dans un joli ton de vert foncé et de Bordeaux, avec comme fond un autre feuillage de sédums, un gros. Un gros plan de près d'un sedum au feuillage épais bordé de rose, avec une petite floraison rose, un pot de Sempervivum arachnoideum, qui ont des fils d'araignées qui se tendent entre les feuilles au fur et à mesure de leur croissance ce qui leur donne cette tête chevelue. Et un sedum rouge foncé avec de large feuilles épaisse et des jeunes rosaces de feuilles en train de se former.

The macro photograph shows a sedum, a succulent plant without a stem, with thick green leaves arranged in a circle. The leaves are shaped like overlapping scales and are arranged in a spiral with the smallest leaves in the center and the largest around the circumference of the circle. The leaves are covered with tiny spines. Green moss grows around the plant.

Heute vormittag hab ich im Keller aufgeräumt & ein Stück Regal aus dem Wohnzimmer abgezweigt für Marmelade & Co., nachmittags konnte ich die Pflasterfläche für's Spielhaus endlich fertig machen. Die größeren Lücken hab ich mit Sedum/Sempervivum bepflanzt, mal sehen, ob sie dort klar kommen 🥰🌱
Blick in ein kleines Kellerabteil. Links vor der Holztrennung zum nächsten Abteil steht ein offenes Holzregal mit mehreren Einlegeböden. Ein paar sind mit Marmeladen- und Apfelmusgläsern belegt, ein paar noch frei. Vorn sieht man den Fangkorn eines Rasenmähers, rechts hinten ein kleines Fenster und davor eine helle Abdeckplane unter der man ein Fahrrad vermuten kann. Blick auf's falunrote Holz-Spielhaus. An der linken Seite und vorn wurden jeweils 2 Reihen Schachbrettmuster mit Ziegelsteinen gepflastert. Hinter dem Haus liegen helle Holzhackschnitzel, links noch blanke Erde. Im und vorm Haus stehen diverse Dinge herum (Stühle, Teile vom Häuschen, Eimer, Werkzeuge. Ganz rechts hinten liegt eine Black Tri Aussie Hündin auf der Seite und schläft. Nahaufnahme der vorderen linken Ecke der Pflasterfläche. Man sieht die unebenen alten Ziegelsteine in Rot- und Gelbtönen. Die Zwischenräume sind mit grauem Splitt gefüllt, in größere Lücken wurden verschiedene winterharte Sukkulenten gepflanzt.

My newest digital painting of a Gulf Fritillary Butterfly, its bright orange wings and body accented with dark stripes and white spots. Its wings are up, and the butterfly is accented in gold so it shines on the dark background. A digitally painted Violet-Shot Copper butterfly from earlier this week, its dusky red orange wings shading to copper and dusty blue near its body and on the outsides. It has one wing tipped slightly open and is brightly lit from above. It is accented in gold so it stands out from its dark complimentary background. A digital painting of a cluster of Campfire Crassula rosettes sun-stressed to a brilliant red-orange. Pops of lime green near newer growth make this succulent plant super interesting. It’s accented in gold to help it stand away from its dark background. A digital painting of a single Sempervivum (also known as hens and chicks) called Gold Nugget. Its name is obvious as the small rows of many pointed leaves are sunstressed from dark green to yellow with red tips. The overall effect from far away is orange. The points are accented as though dipped in gold paint so it stands out from its dark backgrounds

Let's try to make a post through time with plant colors through the seasons with Sempervivum cultivars.
So september colors, here we come, with several pots for most (although they are less than 3m apart, full sun).
Jovibarba arenaria from Goldeck does not change much
Small Sempervivum rosettes on a rough substrate, narrow leaves making almost a pompom, light green with pink undersides. A dead rosette with a dry flower stalk in the middle.

NEW PAPER: A comparative study of the anatomy of Noccaea aucheri (Brassicaceae) species complex by Can et al. The results show that anatomical characters partially distinguish N. sempervivum from other taxa, but do not differentiate between N. aucheri and N. mummenhoffiana.
