#self-interest
Political journalism, and the elite tier of journalism generally, got taken over by billionaire courtiers, conservative activists and sex-pest dipshits and those three groups have largely hounded the real reporters out of the profession as a matter of class self-interest.

I've always felt that Johnson and Farage put self-interest over the national interest - hence their dallying with Putin and his oligarchs. But directly colluding with a foreign government to take down the BBC feels like an act of supreme treachery

I will encourage GOP electeds flipping even if their calculation is pure self interest. And if they think it’s self-interest to flip, that is a great reason to have hope that the country can find an off-ramp from the madness.

Self interest now dictates they vote for them.

Craven c**ts.

I understand that this is controversial but I think that women are oppressed as women and should organize on behalf of their gendered self-interest.

@MalloryMcMorrow.bsky.social knows the value of hard work, selfless service, possess courage and moral clarity and believes politics should be about service, not self-interest

She will utilize these values to deliver for Michigan families in U.S.Senate

The crisis with the Democratic brand is twofold. Real failures that have largely been driven by a donor class sold into self-interest multiplied by purposely broken media/journalism/brains

What that looks like to normies is:
1. Dems don't fight
2. If the GOP were is bad as you say, Dems would fight

Lack of self awareness or interest in trying. Easier to grab and take than to make something yourself

I'm never sure why loving your children is meant to be incompatible with being a monster to other people's. I think that's standard self-interest

Mere self-interest does not account for the sort of pure head-wound behavior I've seen out there

Once again, investor self-interest cuts through the hazy curtains of PR with the real news.
"Investors have been selling off the debt of US tech heavyweights, showing how jitters over Silicon Valley’s boom in spending on artificial intelligence have spilled into the bond market."

When a group is only bound by self interest it doesn't last. The next few months will be both entertaining and terrifying.

It’s extremely unclear to me how restorative justice avoids turning all crimes into self-enforced quasi-civil torts, as you suggest here.

Criminal trials are “people of [community] v [offender]” for a reason. The state has an interest here that is often not satisfied by “making the victim whole”.

It's all well and good saying "if you don't support Labour you'll let Reform win", but at what cost? Because all you are saying is "if you don't let us harm marginalised groups then the next lot may harm us". How many people exactly are you prepared to sacrifice in the name of self-interest?
November 14, 2025 at 10:40 PM
people *without* much to lose often call that cowardice, but it's just self-interest. the very same self-interest that filled the ranks of revolutionary cadres!

Pursuing your own self-interest seems a popular pastime.

It is still wild to me that people empathize for the powerful’s sense of comfort and inconvenience more then with their own self worth enough to actively advocate for their own self-interest, speak to what they need and ask for even basic respect as a human being.

"Trump is willing to play both sides [when] he feels he’s getting out of line with ... the MAGA base. He’s willing to do that on a lot of issues, but on Epstein, he’s never been willing to do this. This has been the one place where his self-interest has gotten in the way." trib.al/ijnPsq3

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Alex Karp, the billionaire CEO of Palantir who has recently pivoted to the political right, “seems a case study in the way ideology often follows self-interest,” our columnist Michelle Goldberg writes.

have been a worse story.

I still can’t believe I was hot on the trail of my own self, while the object of intense interest was just sitting there right across the street.

P.J. O'Rourke called it a "Loser Mutiny." And it's very gendered. Hence Trump gaining increasing #s of votes from men of color (incl the Proud Boys led by Enrique Tarrio) in the past 3 elections--a bizarre effect that should be impossible under any normal understanding of voters' self-interest.

2) How is your mindset any different from an average Reform voters in being prepared to throw others under the bus?

That's what this boils down to. For all the talk of "stopping Reform", how many other people's lives are you willing to see destroyed to protect your own self interest?
November 14, 2025 at 7:53 AM
I find people attractive all the time, and you know what I do about it? Keep it to my fucking self and treat them like a human being where my interest doesn't even enter into it. Because it doesn't. I don't talk about it to strangers on the internet. It's fucking absurd. Attraction isn't special.

It is so wild to see journalists/outlets continue worshipping neutrality like it’s the literal embodiment of god, to the point that they refuse to act like decent human beings or even just understand the situation and act with some solidarity and rational self-interest/preservation instinct.
November 12, 2025 at 5:34 PM
Labour may not be, yet, as bad as Reform, but those in Labour defending this do have to recognise they're as bad as Reform voters. I appreciate many won't like that comparison, but to support these policies you have to have decided it's acceptable to sacrifice others for your own self-interest.
