details probably only I care about. The smithy in town should have a sign beside its door and a path leading to the centre of town but something is up.

There was that article a few years ago about how ORMs are the Vietnam War of computer science, but UI tweaks have to be a close second.

Anyhow, I noticed NPC barks were getting chopped off if they were wider than the view area so had to fix that:

~ programmer art warning ~

It's taken all day to figure out, but ive put together a rudimentary chunk loading system. So now you can drop onto the islands and run around.

Some serious refactoring required though and a rabbit whole of chunk generation and upscaling to come

Coincidentally to Spooky Day, I'd been working on an area in my game where I thought it would be appropriate to have a mist/fog effect and a tip from the roguelikedev discord lead me write animation code that used Perlin noise. I quite like how turned out

The level displayed here is actually incorrect because when you are swallowed by a monster I implemented it as a special dungeon level. So you're effectively on level 1 of a giant toad's belly.

This is the sort of weeds my brain gets into while working on delve

I have published Delve 0.4.0! Still incomplete but I think it is feeling even more like a game than 0.3.3.

Please play my dumb roguelike game and let me know what you think!

Binaries are available for macOS (apple silicon and x64) and Windows!

People who play D&D with me know mimics are a favourite monster of mine so of course I was going to add them to delve. Only a bit of a pain in terms of updating the display code, the Examine command, etc etc...

What if Dredge’s catchable horrors lived not in the sea, but in the sands of Dune?

In Shifting Sands you can haul strange alien fish from silt pits and pools across the desert.

Yes... they bite back.

Saw this and realized it would take only a few minutes to implement it in my own game, so I yoinked the idea!

Auto explore?

I've never much liked it because you give up all exploration of the world to some robot. But I'm reworking the auto commands in diabaig as part of a bug fix update and figured i would add it in. It's quite fun zipping around the dungeon!

Minor bug fix update coming soon #roguelikedev

Out with the old, in with the new!

We’ve been overhauling the UI in Shifting Sands... now with sleeker framing and more rendered items to bring the scrap to life.

What do you think of the upgrade?

Experimenting with UI for the Overseer Marketplace in Shifting Sands.

Trying to balance that retro sci-fi vibe with clarity + usability.

Which direction feels stronger to you: chunky industrial or sleek holographic?

Finished the player run cycle for Shifting Sands (for now).

How I feel each morning respawning to tackle more #gamedevelopment

When you die in a roguelike, should respawn feel like punishment, part of the ritual... or do you just want to get back to it?
