25 years ago, the brothel ban was lifted in the Netherlands. Sex work was already legal before, but the work spaces were not.

Today, our Executive Director represented the KNESWO Feminist Initiative at the SRHR Dialogue for Refugees organized by HIAS Kenya, calling for inclusive SRHR services for refugee, migrant, stateless & internally displaced sex workers in all their diversities.

The UK are attempting to legalise the Nordic model of SW regulation in this country, ie criminalising the buyers of the service but not the seller. This has statistically been shown to be a dangerous model - I recommend the book Revolting Prostitutes for research-backed evidence.

Many struggle to see that women and femme-identifying people can choose sex work and exercise agency. This challenges conservative views on sexuality and autonomy.

Instead of protecting SWers as it purports to do, the Nordic Model makes their work a LOT more dangerous as it means the only people willing to purchase their services are those who are comfortable breaking the law. It doesn't take much to extrapolate why this is wildly unsafe.

Saviorism, moral policing and charity try to make us believe dignity looks like silence, subservience, and struggle done alone. In actuality, real dignity for pregnant sex workers looks like housing without discrimination, medical care without shame, autonomy over our bodies, income for our families

There is a common misconception that sex workers cannot be survivors of domestic violence. But, research shows they experience DV at high rates due to the intersection of anti- sex worker stigma, criminalization, racism, queerphobia, and gendered stereotypes.
