#reintroductions
... and the money can go back into conservation to protect the animals from illegal poaching, create preserves for them to thrive, while providing jobs & support for the local community.

The areas where the Southern white rhino has thrived possessed the infrastructure to make this possible.

Oh heck my brain has taken a walk - sorry Caroline.

I’m finding the need to cook/bake regularly hard going as it takes most of the carer time. But my diet is the best it’s been in 4 years and still trying more reintroductions so hoping it will continue. Body appears to like it too.

This is a sure sign that Gibraltar realises the scrutiny it is under. It cannot afford to take the Mickey out of Europe in the run up to the treaty signing and indeed afterwards, as abuse of issuance of visas will be met with reintroductions of controls.

Again, Trump is an a$$hole.

The Trump administration is telling Colorado to stop importing gray wolves from Canada as part of the state’s efforts to restore the predators, a shift that could hinder plans for more reintroductions this winter. #USA

This is kind of a nonsensical edict from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Canadian and Alaskan wolves are slightly larger, but exactly the same species. It only makes sense if the goal is to stop all wolf reintroductions to Colorado.

Horror is leaving this declaimer up, leaving ample context clues, and giving proper reintroductions, and knowing the futility.

#WolfAwarenessWeek While there were famous reintroductions of gray wolves to Yellowstone National Park and central Idaho in 1995 and 1996, many states saw wolves return on their own. In WA, OR, and CA, wolves migrated in from Canada and from post-reintroduction populations in MT, ID, & WY.

Seeing a Turtle Dove in the UK is always a treat, although checking for leg rings from half-arsed reintroductions tempers the thrill slightly... This bird at St Brides, Pembrokeshire, today thankfully seemed to be ringless #BirdingWales

This is, sadly, untrue.

Lynx and other larger predators would certainly help with the deer problem, especially by making them avoid some areas, but by no means would they solve it: there are just far too many deer.

Even *after* predator reintroductions, culling will continue to be required.
Reintroduce lynx and we won't have to cull any dear.

With the season starting tomorrow, this is a good time for introductions/reintroductions

I'm Harsunder Singh. I was born in Richmond, BC, but have been attending school in the US. I've been a #Canucks fan for 16 years & my favorite player is Demko

Looking forward to a fun season! 🏒 😎

Reintroductions of species are often framed around ‘hope’ in the media

In reality they are often the last resort after other conservation approaches have failed

But it is easier to get attention for reintroductions of charismatic animals rather than boring old habitat conservation

Reintroductions and translocations are successful when the initial threats that drove the loss of species have been removed. Although Goshawks are increasing nationally, they remain heavily impacted by persecution which limits spread and likely selects for hawks that avoid people at all costs.

Some takeaways from episode 211 of the podcast 🎧🌍🦤
Reintroductions can sometimes cause 'de-wilding' rather than rewilding because they replace natural processes. Many species can return on their own if we create proper habitat and connectivity - patience often works better than intervention.
