As reads get longer and more accurate I think something like this will be the path forward, so is is exciting to see! The problem also gets harder when it comes to detecting recombinants within the population....

Agreed: recombinants are long past due. The issue is the long regulatory process to convert LAL to an animal product-free process without compromising patient safety.

Oh, god, please no. I hadn't seen this at all. Most of these recombinants are between extremely similar variants. The exception is XDV/NB.1.8.1, but that one's clearly on a slow, terminal decline. Frankenstein, ugh.
