My great uncle, Flight Engineer Archibald Don Gordon (1919-1943), RCAF 405 Squadron Bomber Command … his Halifax Bomber shot down over the Bay of Biscay off the coast of France during a mine laying expedition. Presumed missing for a time. Buried at Pornic, Loire-Atlantique, France.

Remembering my grandfather, Charlie Calvert who served in England, India, and Myanmar as an aircraft carpenter (airplane frames were mostly wood at that point) in the RCAF during WWII. 🇨🇦

My granddad was posted in Europe with the RCAF after WWII, where he witnessed the scale of destruction left after years of bombing, and where he saw the Cold War play out. He told me the day he flew over Dresden changed his life forever. When he returned to Canada he dedicated his energy to . . 1/3

One of my cousins, Isabella McGrath, had three sons who were killed in active service in World War Two. Robert (aged 23) and Dennis (25) perished a few months apart while serving with the RCAF, and James (20) was lost at sea while serving with the Royal Canadian Navy.

Today I'll be thinking about William Dawson, CAMC & Harry G. Dickson Jr, RCAF who died in the First & Second World Wars. Both from London, Ontario, and the same age (22/20) as many of the students that I teach today. It's a privilege to share William & Harry's stories with them every year 🗃️ #cdnhist

My father was a tail gunner with the RCAF in WWII. He was 18 when he enlisted. He came home thankfully but I know now he had PTSD. He never spoke of the war. But when I asked him why he enlisted, he said because it was the right thing to do. I’m thankful to him, and my husband who served 21 yrs with

okay ill stop harping on about roundels BUT it remains funny to me that most of the former British dominions just went "uuuuuuh shit just replace the circle with the national animal (or in Canada's case, a leaf)" the moment they went to design their own roundels. no points for guessing who's who

My father was a RCAF pharmacist and navigator. He would have gotten his plane lost in them.

Dad didn't talk much about his time in the RCAF. Something seriously traumatic happened (I have zero details.) But he did tell me his very first assignment on active duty was standing on the tarmac at attention, welcoming soldiers home from Korea. Said they were the worst days ever.

“His efficiency as a navigator on more than one occasion has been responsible for saving the lives of the crew.

This officer has shown dogged determination and keenness at all times. His outstanding gallantry is worthy of high praise.”
