Quinalt Casino is nearby but not enough to make the area feel alive. "Dead" is right; I walked by Shilo this AM and most of its neon signs were shattered. Decay. Not sure if it's better elsewhere on WA coast, guessing it's hit-or-miss like OR where Seaside is dead yet near wonderful Cannon Beach. 🤷♂️

Half of the original cabins along the bluff have been taken out of commission/destroyed in the last 4 years or so. We expect all but Macy/Overly (south end) to be gone in the next few years. We stayed there every year for decades. Next year, we’re staying at Quinalt instead. :(

Ha, know the feeling. Mt Ranier is incredible. If you can make the loop around Mt St Helens it’s fascinating to see the before and after volcano. If you do the Olympic peninsula the Ho rain forest just north of Lake Quinalt is a must see. Really amazing 3 minute walk through, all flat.

It's a writing retreat at Lake Quinalt in Washington. I just went for first time to last week's session, 2nd session is now and they are having rain and snow. Lots of cool SFF folks go. So when you said stormy lake, writing retreat, story steps, I wondered. rainforestwriters.com/index.html
