In terms of Frankenstein discourse not enough people are bringing up the episode of Highlander: The Series where Lord Byron is an immortal who Mary Shelley, during a weekend orgy, witnesses die and resurrect after absorbing the quickening of another immortal he beheads and that gives her the idea.

Us, too, when we were kids in the 50s-60s. It's been a slow but ever-quickening descent into crassness since then. One indicator of a rotting society.

Vox feeding into Lute's anger and grief, quickening the pace at which she's bound to fall, and then manipulating her instability and vulnerability once she's in Hell, making her as loyal to him as she was to Adam.
for a little while, I had let myself believe the 📺💪⚔️ song might be a Vox and Lute song, and honestly I have not been able to stop thinking about those two teaming up and uh oh now I ship it 🤷‍♂️

Ooooh, this one is hard. I'm having a hard time choosing. Here's a few, one from each of my more finished projects.

As someone with disordered eating I was expecting a physical & mental challenge at my future wedding venue's tasting.

I was not expecting a spiritual one. Honest to fucking god I had The Quickening with the beef I just ate. Vivid sense memories of being a cow, eating grass, wtf do I do with this??

What a head-spinning checklist? Dizzy sprawls of pertinacious drums, spun-out fx, crushed staggering guitars and freaked sax rapture. This landscape of unruly sound is then stalked through by Izzy & Jeremy’s spontaneous vocal projections, the effect is utterly pulse-quickening.

On November 7, 1980, Miami Herald journalist Michael Browning welcomed the first dose of cool weather to South Florida.

"The sodden, blanketing heat of summer was wrung out of the atmosphere and replaced by the crisp clarity of autumn."

I do not think I’ve ever seen a national politician being this comfortable being this publicly and grotesquely racist in my lifetime. It’s more reminiscent of conservative radio shows in the 80’s. Hard not to see this as the descent backwards quickening.

Books read in October. I didn't include the short story collections I read because they would have messed with the symmetry of the picture.

As corporate media continues to consolidate at an ever-quickening rate, there’s even less reason for megacorps to blindly keep everything they own in active development.

Paramount doesn’t need to keep paying Alex Kurtzman to fumble Star Trek if they’re about to buy DC/Potter/The Matrix.
I think in the current age of so many choices for entertainment (or time wasting), the owners of these properties feel like they have to keep bombarding us with new stuff to stay relevant.

Not realizing they're diluting/sullying the epicness of the originals by putting out tons of subpar content.

Book 69

The Quickening by Rhiannon Ward

A creepy house, a séance, Arthur Conan Doyle, a family secret, things that go bump in the night! Sounds great, but it was just ok. Someone forgot to add the magic gothic beans.

I wonder if people saw Highlander II: The Quickening as inspiration.
this question being led by a private firm (and potential privatization of rollout) is a worst case scenario if you ask me
Major scoop from @robinsonmeyer.bsky.social:

Stardust Solutions, the Israeli geoengineering startup led by a team of Israeli physicists, just raised $60 million to develop the technology to artificially cool the planet by reflecting sunlight as soon as the 2030s.
