In its own way it’s kind of fun how you can watch the half-remembered anecdotes and poorly recalled one page summaries rattle around in his head. It’s like watching an LLM do something that makes the QA team panic.

Larian's publishing director just called the idea of "replacing QA with AI" exactly what it is: "fucking stupid." God, it's refreshing to hear someone in this industry speak the truth.

Larian's Michael Douse Slams AI Replacing QA Workers — NeonLightsMedia

thinking about qa data

When I worked in QA there would always be that one guy who wanted to replace me with a machine. I'm not convinced this is how you get a good game.

I feel like there's so much disrespect towards QA as a game dev role, even though it's incredibly crucial. Remember when Playstation had a whole reality show where the winner gets a QA job?

Does this look like a Gamedev CEO interested in QA?

Anyone who disrespects QA should get out of the industry, tbh. QA is so much more than finding bugs or typos, it's your first exposure to consumer feedback. It's a crucial part of developing the user experience.

Without human QA, you don't deserve human players.

Well paid devs and QA, a host of accessibility options, and a goth girl with two lines in-game dialogue but an R34 page measuring in the tens of thousands.

Because SE's QA people are probably not in a position to defend themselves and their jobs in public, I want to spell out some of what it is they specifically do for us localizers, because nothing I've written here is rhetorical. SE QA acts as a final check on our work after translation and editing.
You don't need me to tell you this is yet more good money being burned after bad. But as someone who's worked with that QA team, I'll say they're unsung heroes who truly play a huge role in maintaining SE's reputation for high quality locs and to attempt to replace them with AI is deeply insulting.

you know-

what if this is some roundabout lesson on how se prolly shouldn’t depend on ai for qa. and maybe one of their own is ddosing for the layoffs.

cause imma be real with you chief. I can’t hate on that. that’s some bullshit.

В принципі, по гугловим софтверним продуктам помітно, що у них нема QA

Oh, and if a AAA studio announces how amazing their games are since they laid off half their workforce to replace them with gen"ai", stop buying their fucking games

QA is a skill that needs people
Art & writing require human artists
Coding needs humans, not algorithms

Gamedev is a human art form

Of its *QA*? Of the thing that AI is demonstrably *worst* at? I-

70% of the concept art would be upsetting. 70% of the coding would be foolish. 70% of the *QA*?!? That doesn't even make sense!

SE's LQA—which occurs in tandem with standard QA—obviously includes the basic, standard technical checks, but their QA testers are also incredibly well-versed in each game's glossary and style guides, both company-wide and franchise-specific. They have keen eyes that catch even the most minor stuff.

how the fuck would AI do QA anyways
