Maybe they’re concerned about children going hungry & people going without paychecks, especially right before the holidays.
Why is everyone so cynical?
Regressives are the ones who take nothing over something. Pragmatics take something over nothing.

This encyclopaedia of one of the major fields of language studies is a continuously updated source of state-of-the-art information for anyone interested in language use. The IPrA Handbook of Pragmatics provides easy access – for scholars with widely divergent backgrounds but with convergent interests in the use and functioning of language – to the different topics, traditions and methods which together make up the field of pragmatics, broadly conceived as the cognitive, social and cultural study

Pointers are dangerous, yet powerful!
Languages provide them to support linked data structures and to provide efficient access to objects on the stack. Check out my latest Programming Language Pragmatics video, which talks about pointers and their static and dynamic semantics.

People don’t want to admit their hair trigger reaction when Stalin is mentioned has everything to do with anti communism. None of you get this incensed when Churchill or US presidents are brought up. I bet you voted Kamala despite her role in genocide. You understand pragmatics when you want to.

Unions are data types that can hold one of several different representations at run time - allowing you to represent data structures with different variants, or in systems code, interpret the same bytes in two different ways. What iteration and recursion constructs do programming languages provide, and how are they implemented?
In my latest Programming Language Pragmatics video, I talk about constructs from while loops through generators to tail-recursive functions, along with implementation approaches and tradeoffs.

How do programming languages define control flow?
In my latest Programming Language Pragmatics video, I talk about precedence, order of evaluation, and expression vs. statements. Control flow matters most for side effects; I talk about tradeoffs involved and forms of assignment.

how in all these systems, pragmatics, ambiguity and context play an important role in "meaning-making" and "communication" shifting away from a mono-modal code-model both for human language and animal communication, with implications for language evolution

Here I will pick just "one" thing the growing realisation of the importance of multimodality (and its interaction with pragmatics) such as in conceptions of language as a multimodally integrated system. This is reflected in descriptions of linguistic communication (e.g. gesture-speech integration) +

How does one write efficient code for modern processors?

How is data represented in computer architectures?
My latest Programming Language Pragmatics video gives compiler writers information about twos-complement integers, floating point numbers, and little-endian vs. big-endian byte order, useful for manipulating data in target code.
