You posted “a unified strategy” (https://www.nih.gov/about-nih/nih-director/statements/advancing-nihs-mission-through-unified-strategy#our-priorities) describing your policies and priorities in a limited number of areas, most aligned with the grant terminations noted above but not mentioning key strategic issues such as the balance between fundamental, translational, and clinical research; the balance of disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment; any special role of the NIH intramural program; and so on. To torture the football analogy a bit more, this seems to be equivalent to opening up a binder with the game plan for the next games and seeing only sections on special teams.

I hate this concept that hospitals only want to help when youre literally at deaths door with death knocking.
Why isnt prevention and help BEFORE things get to that degree not the general consensus? It makes me so furious :((

Sadly predictable. When access to vaccination drops, especially for vulnerable groups, we see the consequences very quickly. Public health only works when prevention is easy, local and universal not when people have to jump through hoops to get protected.

I’m concerned about how fast mistrust spreads right now, because it doesn’t stay in the internet — it shows up in clinics, facilities, and families. When trust drops, people delay care, decline prevention, and outbreaks become more likely.
