Yeah, that's the basic idea as far as I'm aware, in general polymeter happens across a larger time frame but there are a lot of things on the border that could be notated or felt either way

There's odd time signatures, polyrhythms, polymeter, key changes down, key changes more than one key up, microtonal notes, barely used modes and so so so much more. Instruments that go hardly unused and jazz chords hardly seen outside of jazz.

I like this. I'm hearing a 8 against 7 polymeter. Polymeters are fun. It can get even more interesting if you syncopate some of the parts.

One of my favorite band experiences was the drummer, exasperatedly trying to explain a polymeter for 20 minutes straight. could *not* get us to understand and couldn't let it go. eventually, one of the guitarists goes, "wait, so... dunn dunn dundununudun" and we all played it perfectly.

Might be my fault? I did a video about meter a couple months ago that briefly discusses the difference between polymeter and polyrhythm. I didn't mean to give the impression that one could judge that difference absent broader context, but who knows.

Thanks! I tried to balance keeping to and stretching traditional form. Gamelan is not normally in 5/4 or 7/8, let alone the two combined in a polymeter! It took a lot of rehearsal for the group to get it, only for it to be canceled when the pandemic first hit.
