Using petrography, XRD and SEM-EDX, we: 🔹 Identified 3 main fabric groups for each phase 🔹 Documented differences in temper & firing regimes 🔹 Proposed that all raw materials were locally sourced (no imports!)

New at PB: Artist, activist, & writer Warren Cariou visits @josevergara.bsky.social’s class for a conversation about his writing, his petrography (photographs produced with bitumen), Indigenous land relations, and the need for local control over energy.
“Suddenly, the New Story Was There”
“I had seen a lot of bitumen in the devastated landscapes of the bitumen mines. But seeing it here, in such a mundane and tranquil setting, surprised me. That was when I first understood that this…

An eruption style transitional between effusive and explosive activity? Using satellite and drone-based photogrammetry and petrography we describe a strange type of block and ash flow deposits from Bezymianny volcano, Kamchatka. Check out our new paper in Bull Volc doi.org/10.1007/s004...

Leucite has a range of volcanic hills named after it, see:
https://www.geowyo.com/leucite-hills.html

These are strange, high potassium lamproites from the mantle, only 1-2 million years old.

Match that, organic goo #carpathite !

My favorite page so far of my sketchbook journal from my #sciart residency at Mount St. Helens. I fell in love with the field of petrography and now I want to look at every single rock I find under a microscope.

Reminds me of when I snuck into the astronomy elective in my first year of university - we had one department-agnostic elective in an entire 4-year physics course, and I used it on thin section petrography in the geology dept, but didn't want to miss out on astronomy so I just sat in on the classes

Test post thread!
Have a random July birthday of a historic scientist:
July 14 is the birthday of Florence Bascom, (1862–1945), considered the first women geologist in the United States. She was an expert in crystallography, mineralogy, and
petrography.
