#openRxiv
A lot of the discourse around the openrxiv announcement of experimenting with qed is quite surprising.

It's an experiment and it's not "peer review" it's more for author feedback. In that use case it doesn't have to be perfect or listened to. Authors can decide if it highlights a good gap and act

Not an academic so much as someone who's had a big impact on science, but John Inglis of CSHL Press & openRxiv is one of the nicest men you could possibly meet.
Right, enough of James Watson - who's a senior academic you've met who's been an utter delight?

I'll go first: Jocelyn Bell Burnell

This isn't really a judgment on Openrxiv, which just reflects the reality of sustaining non-profit infrastructure right now, but it probably shows the need for institutions to get involved in funding the preprint landscape before it's all commercialised rather than community governed.

I wonder if the differing responses to AI are down to arXiv having a sustainability model that's more mature and dependent on institutional funding, while Openrxiv is newer and looking to more to commercial services and partnerships for sustainability.
A week after the arXiv was forced to tighten down on submissions because of overwhelming volumes of AI slop, bioRxiv is throwing the doors wide open.
disappointed that @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social is implicitly endorsing the use of LLMs to replace scientific thought

@richardsever.bsky.social this is a short-sighted move and a net negative for science

I appreciate the thinking that preprint servers should integrate tools that make life better for authors, and in the short term this probably will. Unfortunately, in the longer term I think this is a serious misstep for openRxiv and will ultimately make science worse. 👇

My prediction is that LLM peer review will slow down science. It will do this for precisely the same reasons that contemporary peer review does and some extra ones. Start by reading @hansonmark.bsky.social thread below, then read on. 🧵
Just tried q.e.d. by @odedrechavi.bsky.social et al. with a few papers including by myself & others where I knew a claim within was flawed based on a misunderstanding of the signal.

1) it was impressive. I see what the hype is about.
2) it hallucinated.

Could you let us know what the commercial terms of this partnership are? Does QED Science Ltd (a for-profit) pay openRxiv to be featured in this way? If not, were donations that had been made to openRxiv used to pay developers to implement this?

Enabling options for review: bioRxiv authors now have the option to send their preprints directly to @qedscience.bsky.social , an authors-centered AI review platform, for automated feedback on their paper.
