Sounds like Unicode-adjacent, get Notepad++ and step through it to see it the existing is being swapped somewhere along the way. Also see if there are any flags you need to send to the JSON writing procedure to ensure correct coding

I'm not necessarily the best person to ask about this, but I've had similar problems where it's an encoding issue. Try opening it in Notepad++ - it'll say UTF-8 or something down in the lower right corner, and you can try different encodings in the Encoding menu

I would like Live & Learn better if I hadn't listened to it on a constant loop non-stop from July 2001 to January 2003. It was my favorite song at one point, but I ruined it for myself.

I used to just open a Notepad and type out the lyrics when I was bored, I was gosh-darn OBSESSED with it.

Just when Rae thought staring at the door hard enough would finally make it melt, a small slat at the bottom of the door opened instead. First, a tied bundle of clothes was sent through. She picked them up, found them unfamiliar, and set them down on the vanity pushing the cheap baubles to the floor with a plastic clatter. Secondly, a tray with wheat toast, scrambled eggs, and sausage links was sent through. Pulling the bench seat from under the vanity, moving the clothes to the end of the bed she slept in, Rae sat down to look at the food. Served on a foam plate with a plastic fork, it left her no hope. It also told her she wasn’t the first he’d taken this way. Before she completed her second bite of toast, she pulled the bench seat over to the spot under the camera. Retrieving the notepad and marker, she removed a sheet, wrote on it, and stood on the bench again to interact with the modified voice. HOW MANY OTHERS? WHERE ARE THEY? “Two, dead” came over the speaker. “Now eat. Made it myself. It’s safe.” Rae looked directly into the camera and produced an expression of cynical doubt.

I've long wondered, is this notepad as old as it looks, or some lame faux-vintage thing? Who would make something this strange?

Turns out it was Matt Groening, in 1986, three years before The Simpsons premiered.

Is this secretly a valuable item? Either way, I still love it.
