i love the tangled people sm but i feel like all i really want out of atproto git is like
1. set up an ssh remote urself for pushing (i.e. mkdir on a server u already have)
2. publish a record saying "my repo is head@<commit hash> and lives at https url xyz.git"
3. host it with plain nginx

That means was gets returned from the API endpoint can be anything:
- Nginx 502 HTML error pages from an overloaded/rebooting frontend
- Advertising pages from DNS redirects
- Login pages from Hotel WiFi

The power of containers really hits when you can simply switch a single line to completely upgrade a PHP version or change web servers. 🚀
I was just doing some testing. I switched between NGINX, Apache, and FrankenPHP all in about 30 seconds 🤯

because then I have a hard dependency on nginx working
which it's going to most of the time, but but now if I want to control my printer I need DNS, a proxy, certbot, etc all working...
we need a better way - I have IP-addressable lightbulbs I should not need a full service stack for them to work

Successful evening!
PDS MOOved (semi)[redacted] to its own host (thanks @baileytownsend.dev for your tool!!)
A lot of fun involving removing nginx and migrating to Caddyfile to support the PDS, the site, and the AppView all on the one droplet.
Next up, verifying auth on mobile!

p.s. nginx is using a total of 16mb for serving its stuff.
This is like... genuinely not bad at all. Nginx is a conceptually much more highly tuned and specialized piece of software.

Some fun @conjured.ink stats:
1. It’s currently about 30% slower than raw nginx at serving a static file from memory under high contention
2. It peaks 22mb doing so. When using the db, it peaks at around 72mb, all 50 of which is just SQLite
3. It still does 4k req/s on a $30 rpi zero clone (vs 6k)

(actually it's going fine i'm running shimmie, a fascinating bit of software entirely written by a bunch of post-irony masturbation enthusiasts, and i put it in docker and behind nginx and it's all going just fine)

And yet without “web servers” the internet wouldn’t even exist but people aren’t in the streets jerking each other off when a new version of Nginx is released. Just be normal about tech!
