Ok, Apple killed the Netbook with the iPad
But discovered that now it can sell you an overpriced keyboard for the iPad.
The true Netbook killer, was the Chromebook.

You are correct... although Chromebooks were effectively a result of win 7 driving up netbook hw pricing and the market needing a viable $399/499 alternative to the iPad.

Looks gorgeous, and everything is as promised so far. I wanted Win 10 but they didn't give me the option, so it has Win 11 Pro. I can't wait to see what 4x the RAM can do for me. Time to add my hotspot to internet settings.

The One-Netbook account made a new post that showed off the liquid-cooled version of the OneXFly Apex, its large frost bay, and confirmed that it will run at a higher TDP and weigh more than the standard version with air cooling:

I'm sure you've seen the D&D "netbook" of "carnal knowledge" from the early 1990s? Exactly as rules-heavy as you'd expect for the era. (Not talking about the OGL BOEF, that was much later and professional.)

There was a GURPS one, too, somewhat later.

@mollywood.co If I remember right, you had a Sony Vaio P waaaay back in the Buzz Out Loud days. I really liked that netbook design. Somebody made a super-focused "writer deck" out of it, basically an old-fashioned hardware word processor, with a custom Linux build. www.reddit.com/r/writerDeck...

The upcoming beast of a handeld, the OneXFly Apex, is having a launch livestream tomorrow, where they will go over development, design, features, and hopefully show the external liquid cooling:

I found my old Netbook and first Phone and recovered files from 2009 to 2014, it's the most insane thing, it's like a timecapsule of long forgotten photos and videos.

Oh boy am I getting stuff done! I got washed, dressed and be-lensed, and as if that weren't enough achievement for one day, I went for a walk! Then, having listened to a radio programme about spontaneous combustion of lithium batteries I finally bought a replacement netbook.

Maybe I should "accidentally" spill water on my netbook someday

Valeu. Atualmente tô usando um netbook Acer que comprei em 2008. Beeem fraquinho e não consigo atualizar pro Debian 13 porque ele é i386.

Tinha visto um parecido com esse uma vez, mas esse parece ser melhor.

The Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition ($329 in 2009) was a netbook for kids but saw more demand from nostalgic adults.

I can't believe I played games on that tiny netbook!! I would sit in my pink fuzzy folding chair in my room and play Virtual Villagers for hours. I had iTunes and Office on it too and had to download a program just to change the wallpaper (Windows 7 Starter didn't allow it). Incredible stuff lol

@retrocomps.bsky.social Not sure how retro it is but I just resurrected an old Acer Aspire One netbook using Antix Linux.

if you made a netbook today it would be as good except the software part, blame windows forgetting how to use less than 4 gigs of ram
October 10, 2025 at 7:55 PM
haha, looking at my folders of Installers, I have some wild stuff in there - 19GB of BeOS software, 13GB of Linux installs I was going to try to run on my old EeePC netbook… At one point I had a huge archive of Apple Newton software from the time when I had an eMate.

ughhh chrome you fucking piece of shit. youtube runs like a fucking netbook from 2008 when you turn off graphics acceleration but keep ambient mode on. then the rest of my beefy computer runs more than fine. it's so fucking stupid.

my netbook from 2009 that can't do most stuff because it has a 1 GHz 32-bit CPU, and which I daily drove for way too long, is going to make an honestly pretty great DOS deck
