Scarab’s been taking very good care of Liam’s childhood toy- Sir Ducky, for the entire time their memories were sealed away! Finn and Jake gave it to him after Liam gave it to them. Both he would’ve needed it more than them in the end. (More in the ALT)

Despite their sibling giving it to them to remember them by. Liam is still super attached to Sir Ducky, even as a Cosmic Being. Scarab also talked to Sir Ducky during the “whoops memories sealed away” time as a moral boost when he was feeling down. He’ll never admit this to anyone. Isopods are the equivalent of living Roombas in Bug World and weren’t heavily affected by Myriaxanthus’ primordial magic (besides getting Deep Sea Isopod sized). They’re basically cats.

Liam not having that great of control after inheriting Myriaxanthus’ powers is what leads them to accepting the offer to become a Cosmic Being. Mostly because they don’t want to accidently hurt people/their family/friends with their newly acquired primordial powers. A certain more drastic transformation after defeating the Lizard Beast they were hunting down over the years causes them to go with Scarab to see Orbo and The Boss finally.

“Lately, ever since Bubbles told me that one Beast was roaming near the Kingdom, I have been feeling like I’ve been… I don’t know how to describe it?” Liam paced back and forth, anxiously rubbing at their arms and chewing at their lip. Scarab’s eyes tracked their every move, noticing their every agitated twitch and nervous habit he’s come to recognize rise to the surface. At this rate they’d wear down a hole in the candy floor. Ever since they arrived at the Candy Kingdom and attended Princess Bubblegum’s yearly Beast location reports, Liam had been an anxious mess. He hated seeing them like this. “It’s like…parts of me are a coiled up spring- ready to rip right out of me.” Scarab frowned at that, but said nothing and let them continue. “Like- something’s ready to burst violently out of me- like…Augh!” They suddenly came to a halt and grabbed at the sides of their head, roughly scratching at frustration from trying to sort their jumbled up thoughts, “Like all of a sudden there’s pieces of me that don’t belong to me- and-and-” Liam sucked in a sharp breath at the sensation of Scarab’s hand gently settling on their shoulder. They hissed out their held breath slowly and clenched their eyes shut, ‘Glob, what the hell is going on with me’, they didn’t even notice him get up from his seat and get behind them. Shaking, but slowly lowering their hands away from their ruffled hair, Liam placed their hand over Scarab’s and gave it a firm squeeze. They felt the tension leave their body and relax the moment he wrapped his other arm around them, and leaned to rest his head atop theirs. “Breathe, Liam.” Liam took another, more steady breath, and sighed, leaning back into him. Scarab’s touch was always a reliable comfort- always something to ground themself to. “And I just…don’t know what’s going on with me, Scarab.” Their grip on his hand tightens, “I haven’t felt like this since… since that damn thing ripped my friends apart all those years ago.” “You had a similar feeling to this back then? Before it attacked?” “Yeah…” They let go of his hand and turned around in his grip, pressing their cheek against his cool carapace. “During that. And even before- before my moms found me in the human underground bunker.” Scarab rubbed at their back, softly chittering, mandibles playing with their hair, “You’ve always been able to sense them?” That explained how a few of their hunts of the Beasts went, with Liam knowing exactly where to go. “Yeah.” Liam wrapped their arms around his waist. “This sensation. It happens, with other Beasts, but never so extremely intense. Right now, it feels like its very, VERY, far away from us. But back then, when I was younger- I blacked out before each time it attacked.” They groaned at an unexpected feeling of their head throbbing at a pulse of energy, and pressed their entire forehead against him to try to distract themself from it. “It wasn’t out of fear, no, but from being overwhelmed by this feeling. I felt like I was going to explode. And right now? It feels like a lesser version of that, like a beginning of a bad migraine if I had to compare it to something.” Scarab’s mandibles paused with fussing with their hair, Liam not noticing his worried look. He did not like the sound of what his partner was dealing with at all. “Blacked out, hmm?” “Yeah, but thankfu- Wah!” Liam let out a surprised yelp as Scarab suddenly pried them off and started to carry them to their bed, “Is it like that right now?” Their face burned in embarrassment at the quick turn of events. “N-no, no, I swear I’m fine! It’s just a nagging, irritating feeling right now- Scarab, I don’t need to lay down!” He huffed. “Feeling faint or no, clearly you need rest.” “But-” “No buts.” He leaned to the point his face was right up in theirs. Liam held their breath. His pupils were narrowed and locked onto them, breath hissing through sharp bared teeth and mandibles clacking right above their nose. They found their worried thoughts entirely thrown out the window at the look of him like this. Now instead solely focused on him. The sight of Scarab like this would likely terrify most people, but by Glob, did he look amazing to them. “You’re worried, tired, overthinking things that could happen. And your body and mind are completely restless right now.” He actually growled this at them, and they felt their cheeks burn again for a very different reason from before, “But, I’m-” Scarab didn’t let Liam start as he switch to being menacing to flashing them a toothy, cheeky grin, and all but dropped them onto the pillow filled bed. “Woah!” Liam got the air knocked out of them from the surprise drop, and the God Auditor was quick to clamber above them before they could react. “Scara-? Oof!” Scarab plopped himself onto them as if he were Liam’s own personal, grumpy, weighted blanket. He chittered and trilled, pressing himself closer to them and nibbling mischievously at the ticklish part of their neck. “And I’d be a poor partner if I didn’t try to remedy your discomfort.” Making sense of things again, Liam frowned half-heartedly at him. But Scarab’s antics soon had them laughing and trying to wiggle out of underneath him. “Oh you cunning devil, you, charming and distracting me with your good looks!” “Devil, hmm? That’s a new one from you.” They slapped his chest lightly, smiling, “You’re the spitting image of the card aunty Marcy showed me after all, red, menacing, looks good in a suit-” Scarab snorted, “but come oooon, let me go- at least let me check up on Finn and Jake-” “Liam, I’d like to think after five years together I know how you are. You’ll run off, certainly do as you say, but then find yourself back into that loop of feeling uneasy again.” They bit their lip, looking away from him. A clear sign that they knew that was the truth, and they couldn’t deny it. Ah, how he felt a swell of pride in knowing all their quirks and tells. “Am I wrong?” Liam groaned, “No, but-” “They’re with the Princess and that vampire anyways, they’re in safe hands. So please, relax and rest, Liam.” An idea popped in his head. His proboscis slipped past his teeth, pressing itself against their cheek and with an audible pop left a mark on their skin. Liam didn’t think their face could get any darker, “Hey!” “Hmm~? What is it?” The proboscis writhed impishly against their neck, another joining the first, and Scarab sported a matching smile. “Glob Damn it, Scarab. You don’t play fair”’ He chuckled and they licked their lips and leaned back into the soft cushions. Of course he’d play that hand, they’d never skip out on a chance of getting kisses from him no matter what form it was given in. They tapped his arms, “Alright fine, you win, Scrabby.” His smug look at that made Liam roll their eyes, “but scooch over or let me lay on you- you’re heavier than you look.” “Hah! Alright, alright.” He scooped them up and rolled over, relieved at the sound of Liam’s familiar cheerful laughter at the movement. Scarab felt another swell of pride at being so easily able to brighten them up with his affections. Then again, Liam could do the same with him just as easily. No, probably more even. Laying halfway on his chest, Liam smiled softly at him and caressed his cheek, and he couldn’t help but trill and chirp in response. “Thank you, Scarab.” He leaned into their touch, closing his eyes and wrapping his arms around them, “Is it not bothering you anymore?” “Mmhmm,” They moved to cozy up at their favorite spot underneath his chin, “Just a quite buzz now, nothing serious like before.” “Good. Now get some sleep.” “Nuh uh.” He opened an eye again, a bit miffed, “And why not?” Liam tugged at his tie, “You can’t just tease me with those and then leave me hanging with no more kisses.” Ah. Right. They pulled and he followed without any resistance as they pressed a kiss to the side of his jaw.

Liam has gotten into a bit of an argument with Scarab about said fungus when they have to go through it with him accompanying them on their journey. The fungus wouldn’t infect him (his kind may look like bugs but they’re they’re shapeshifters) but Liam has seen what it does to insect people and hates the thought of Scarab winding up like them. Cordyceps in Bug World is common in certain areas, mostly near sections of giant fungal forests. It doesn’t infect humans, or most mutants changed by the mushroom war toxic wastes. It does 100% infect the giant humanoid insects changed my Myriaxanthus’ primordial magic however. It’s not frequent- but those that choose to live near the fungus forest have high infection rates. You’d think, “why do some insect folk choose to live near there if there’s a high fatality rate because of it?” Other mushrooms tasty- a more elaborate explanation: Generations of insect people have history of farming safer fungus, and just simply live with the risks! Some, however few, species have developed a natural immunity to the fungal take over- but not many boast the same ability. Healthier and younger insect folk have more likely instances of their antibodies neutralizing the spores on the other hand. So older or sick bugs living near it tend to be the most frequent infected. Those on the outskirts of the fungal forests that get infected, slowly start to forget things. Until all the remains is the urge to go into the fungus filled forest and climb to the highest point. Those infected wandering into the forest are allowed in without a fuss by the guards. It’s a painful thing to go through for infected, but said pain diminishes when within the depths of the forest. It’s not very studied by the denizens of Bug World, but its all agreed that allowing them passage within the forest is the kinder (and safer) option because of the numbness gained for those slowly growing the new mushrooms breaking out of their bodies. Best for them to got to the forest instead of sprouting new "forests" from their corpse. It’s very common with the ants farming edible fungus living nearby. Depending on the progression of the infection, some can still slightly recognize and communicate with other’s passing by. Mostly simple gestures and words, like “hello”, “go this way” “dangerous” and a very, very common word said by infected “goodbye”. The spires of mushrooms tower high, and if looked closed enough at, bare shapes of those unfortunate to get infected, now completely consumed by the fungus. Liam hates mushrooms because of this, and will never eat any despite what anyone says if they’re safe eat. This paranoia sticks with their Cosmic self too! And also, despite their phobia, they have to traverse through said forests to deliver packages occasionally to the mushroom farms. The hate it- but it’s their job and they gotta do it. Especially when only non-insectoid couriers are allowed passage through. It makes them really sad when they pass by any unfortunate insect aimlessly wandering about though. The outfit Liam is wearing is co-made by the Fire and Candy Kingdoms! The insides keep the wearer cool, while the outer is hot enough to incinerate any floating spores that come in contact with it. It’s a requirement for all couriers seeking passage at checkpoints through fungal forests. Said checkpoints surround a one mile radius of the fungal forests and are managed by the Fire Kingdom! There’s Death warning signs outside of the literal fire wall for precautions during high winds. When gusts of winds kick up the guards stationed there flare up the said fire wall installations and keep the flames up and running until it calms down. They also do “trimming” to the towers of mushrooms- they can’t exceed the height of the fire wall (which gets pretty high up in the sky!) It’s especially dangerous (for bug people at least but any person with spores getting on their clothing can spread it unintentionally) to be near during rainstorms. So hives and towns don’t tend to be near any of the farming areas at all. Even the giant golden beasts tend to avoid the fungal forests!

14) Pupa Jake (And Bug World Molting Trivia)

Thanks to the mutations from both the mutagenic weapons and Myriaxanthus’ primordial magic transforming them, most insects don’t need to worry about desiccation, besides aquatic nymphs and the like of course.

Though, just like brood/grub/egg chambers in the Hive cities, there’s designated areas for molting within the hives to meet the needs of specific insect folk. But despite that, there’s essentially rooms that are very humid to aid in the molting process! Cause while there’s no risk of drying out anymore, molting still possesses the threat of getting stuck on them if their nutritional needs aren’t met- or said bug isn’t in that great of health when a molt arrives. In Hive cities and decently sized towns, there can be helpers (if needed or requested) to help make sure all limbs and pieces of molt get safely off. And also, most molting bugs eat their molts- or offer to distribute it amongst the hive/place they’re currently living at. Unless they live alone that is. For those living alone, they either just deal with it normally, and essentially make a sauna for themselves in a enclosed area of their home with a machine (most are made by the Candy Kingdom) or magic device that increases humidity. In bug world, it is pretty much comforting (and common!) to have those you trust nearby during a molt. Family members do indeed help out during molts, watching over and talking to the one molting, and stepping in when needed to assist! Especially with nymphs, who go through a lot of molts in their life. Liam, while traveling with lil grub Jake, helped him out through his molting though instars and final pupation! Some pupa can speak a little bit when going through the pupation or molting process. As per usual the two are dorks. As for others... Centipedes got very large thanks to compatibility with the Primordials’ powers, and tend to be essentially buses/trains for traveling between towns and Hives! Basically Centipede railways, and there's specific centipede stations for safe travel, its somewhat of a bumpy ride though. They’re also good at combating smaller Beasts! This one of the designated chambers and helpers that assist in removing molts. Specific pupation molts have very specific requirements sometimes though. Especially with the various beetles living in Hives, some tend to require massive pupation chambers, like with Goliath Beetles. Hive cities can be massive because of this, they take nurturing their young very seriously! On the other hand, for more arboreal insects, they tend to just hang out on their preferred place to molt! Though molting is still nerve wracking for them, and here- Leaf at her Inn tended to psych herself up before each molt she had to do. She didn’t need to worry about it anymore after her final molt much to her relief. And that's the gist of it with Pupation and Molts in Bug World!

The origin of Liam's world started off with multiple bangs! The usual Mushroom War and the Golden Bang. The gigantic, larger than a planet, Primordial Monster named Myriaxanthus had a very specific plan in mind.
Orbo Watching Myriaxanthus accidently wreck the Earth/Ooo at the start of their plan after being woken up by the Mushroom War. They frantically and messily try to mend it with mixed results for everyone living on the planet.
