its a great soldering iron so far, no complains.
the only advice i can provide is paying attention to the model.
the model A (c245) is suitable for general soldering and the B (c210) for pcb/microsoldering, the tips are not interchangeable.
as im planing on jailbreaking my switch i had to go with B.

Back when I did electronics repair I spent over $200 on different types of tweezers: pointy/flat/curved, regular/spring loaded/locking, different brands, etc.
I wasn't ever skilled enough to do microsoldering commercially but the tools to move ~1x2mm microchips came in handy for larger work.

welp figured out why I was wide awake
did you know that taking long-acting methylphenidate and bupropion before sleep will make you probably get up and learn about microsoldering instead of resting?

my girlfriend's job has her up before 6:00 am every day and we barely sleep together anymore
i tried to force it tonight and trying to force myself to sleep at 8:30 has just made it so i'm wide awake at 12:30 instead

this one isn't for soldering. although maybe for extreme microsoldering lol

What keeps my soldering station hot? Definitely not the inquisition of a probabilistic word prediction machine. GPT-5 is asking follow-up questions that are not welcome!

While I was in a microsoldering mood, I thought I'd dump the emmc from a samsung TV motherboard that I bricked way back.
I was starting to wonder if the "dump emmc with SD card reader" technique was some kind of urban legend because it's never worked for me before, until now.

Course for what I want I'll have to broach into microsoldering too.

building a miniature diorama and honestly i've done microsoldering less finicky and precise than this

It’s only easy for early model systems. Nintendo revised the switch about a year or two in to fix that exploit. Now it requires microsoldering and mod chips that Nintendo actively goes after

Device has a busted USB-C port. Manufacturer offered to sell me a replacement board, which would be an easy drop-in replacement well within my skillset, but it's oh so tempting to use this as an excuse to try once more to get into microsoldering since the port itself only costs a buck and change.

i almost went with a Pinecil as well, but i wanted a finer tip for microsoldering, as im going to jailbreak my switch.

lol still glad as shit I pulled the trigger but yeah. Soldering is one thing, but turns out it’s MICROsoldering, and fuuuuuck that

i can do it, but perpetually shaky hands means microsoldering isnt fun and i have that really bad habbit of cranking temps to make it go faster and just COOKING components

Janked together an animated LED protest sign using one of the brill DMG1083 driver boards from @eta.st. I was buzzing to bring it to protests.
Ended up accidentally blasting 30V right through the 5V LED panel. RIP LED sign. Back to cardboard.
Next project - microsoldering LED panel controllers.

If you ever wondered if you could use a cheap USB microscope for microsoldering, consider this:
Imagine trying to play Mega Man 2 with a laggy Bluetooth controller, through a garbage composite-to-HDMI upscaler. Using chopsticks.
Don't do that to yourself.

I have a load of drawing reference books that I've been meaning to get stuck in to. I've done microsoldering in the past and I don't get the 'shakes' that some repair engineers have (yet) so this has been on 'the list'. I want to pick up cooking proper also, I do it every day but I don't experiment.
