A chiliagon is a 1000-sided polygon, famous in philosophy for Descartes using it as an example of the diff b/w imagining something visually and conceptualizing it.

Anyway I tried to get Gemini to draw it

I ❤️ activities like this! More importantly, students love activities like this. Add predictions, graphing, #math modeling, & add'nl variables related to things like pumpkin size (or other vegetables) to turn this into a whole unit of study!

Let's break this pumpkin with rubber bands. How many rubber bands will break it?

Had the opportunity to see Counted Out today and OMG ya'll, you *must* see it. Seriously. Math can save us all (& might be the only thing that can).

Mathematical models in biology are powerful, but often hard to run, visualise, or reuse without specialist skills.

Menelmacar is a new platform that makes biological models interactive and easy to explore directly in the browser: biomodels.bacpop.org

Worth reading.

What universities will the government extort / blackmail next?
Terence Tao (@teorth.bsky.social) has written a thread on Mastodon about the impact of the federal grant freeze to UCLA, particularly to his own field of Mathematics. UCLA's IPAM (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics) could shut down entirely

Jessica: Before this deal, we essentially were paying 1% on imports with the EU. 15% is more than 1%. I wish Gasparino was sitting here to explain to Jesse how tariffs work because it is a tax on the consumer.

I've gotten a lot of comments about these posters I found on a FB page & posted here. Obviously, AI generated & filled with the typical problems associated w/that. It highlights how important discussion & knowledge of mathematics history are. #math #mathchat #problemsolving #mathresource #edresouce

Looking for your artistic feedback about particular totalistic cellular automata rules for crochet granny squares!

Which of the following outputs do you like best? (Each is a semi-random selection of 100 generations of a rule-based algorithm)

Five designs will be shown in the replies below...

This is going to make you feel very small.

Fly away from the surface of Earth, past the Sun, out of the Solar System, through the closest stars, leave the Milky Way, to the cosmic web of galaxies in the nearby Universe.
