THE TITLE OF THE POEM: To My Extraordinary Valentine THE POEM: If I'm a lung, you're oxygen sustaining me with every breath. While I'm your prism, you're my light, revealing more than eyes will know. But when I'm milkweed, butterfly, togetherness brings flourishing. And if I'm ocean, you're my Moon inspiring tides to rise with life. Where I'm a comet, your my Sun: our dancing dazzles galaxies. I could go on: you're rocket fuel that frees us from Earth's gravity. Or: you're the magnet to my compass, leading me from aimless ways. fridge magnet poem: hey / listen / love you / but this / could have / been an / inside thought --- It would also be a seismic social and economic change if the Sun suddenly turned into cheese... but because there are a bunch of fundamental rules of the universe that prevent it from happening with any meaningful probability, I don't let it affect my day-to-day or sway real, important decisions that I'm responsible for making. I take "the hype being real" to mean that GenAI becomes capable of actually doing the things proponents claim it can or will be able to *soon* (after the next $$$billion cash infusion and more deregulation and land and delegation of power to megalomaniacal CEOs and...), and that it is adopted organically by everyone because it's just that much better at achieving the outcomes we want. This is not the same thing as "craven assholes capture leadership and use lies about GenAI's promised capabilities as an excuse to further emiserate us and consolidate power for themselves". There is a large body of evidence that the hype around GenAI (the subset of AI that everyone means when they say AI) has not materialized, in any domain, that its boldest claims can never be realized from first principles, and that we're constantly being lied to about capabilities by the same people responsible for untold frauds over the past decades, and whose livelihoods depend on ginning up confidence in investors and doomerism in everyone else. You are a trusted communicator on important topics within your area of expertise. People relax critical thinking just a little when you speak. It is not clear enough that this thought is on a topic OUTSIDE your area of expertise. Please use your words and platform more responsibly than this.

And the Tiny Bubbles poem is just pure Perfartlor but also contain lines that make it clear she’s not talking about Travis. “He’s a magnet and a trampoline”. First of all, what would that mean when talking about a partner? Those are opposing qualities.

Nor a street of words, poems placed on anthologies’ pages, some settled, some standing out as a stray, in your offering either. Some memories you are so glad return, writing them a little reclaim of a prize, a shaping of them here, a tidy picture, a voice you hear as if it were yesterday, though you were a child when you heard: “You should have chosen the signet ring. A magnet with a photo does not need to be only on a fridge. A drawing can say it is by you, aged four years old, even when you are turning five.” But weather is a scope I know safe to submit, and so I joyfully do.

My ears were no longer newly pierced,
and Grandma said not to put the magnet on the fridge:
it was too nice.
She placed it on the television,
beside her screen,
so household and homely,
a fan of VHS films who would always see us.
Bolero. A short red jacket, with black edging and pockets trimmed in the same dark line, reminding me of the material of a suit. And then, in the entrance of the department store, when they offered a photoshoot to turn our smiles into a magnet, I posed in a reversible white, panda‑patterned jumper with its heavy black collar, my cousin in her red bolero, and those dangling crystal‑heart earrings I wore that caught every colour in the light. My ears were no longer newly pierced, and Grandma said not to put the magnet on the fridge: it was too nice.
