System Shock came in a big box and on nine 3.5" floppies when it was first released. It required MS-DOS 5.0, a measly 35 megs of HD space, 4 megs of RAM (8 were recommended!), and rendered its world in blistering 256-color VGA graphics running on a 486DX/33 (a 486DX/50 was also recommended!).

So here's part 3 of the Unisys CWP4663 refurb project. Windows and DOS shenanigans are afoot! As usual, link in reply!

So here's part 2 of my Unisys CWP4663 refurbish project! It's a long one, but includes a teardown, RIFA goodness, and obligatory DOOM! Link, of course, in reply below.

Almost done! Software-related shenanigans next!
Yes, the optical drive is gray. It matches the power button (which is 3D printed)! It was also the only IDE drive I had that worked. Plus, many systems during this time had beige/gray aesthetics.

So, today I unbox an eBay purchase, basically a random bid I didn't even expect to win. Did I luck out, or is it junk?
And yes, you know what this is.

It works!
Now to clean, address the missing power button, get a hard drive in it, sound card, maybe more RAM, and test test test!!!

Also, janky Linux stuff.
Yes this is my original boot floppy, though I have lost the actual install media, manuals, etc. 🥲 Might still be at my dad's house...🤔
And even though this thing has abused me enough, once done maybe I'll do a Linux install on a 486? 😬

Strike Commander Big Box including an undamaged poster arrived! I remember trying to rebuild the skyscrapers in 3D Studio back when I originally got the game. Had the poster for a few years in my room. I had a 486 DX 33Mhz at the time which ran the game ok 😉.

The Nvidia 1080 card is the Intel486 DX2 of our time.
Really great at release and stood the test of time so gamers didn't have to upgrade for many many years.
