as is maybe obvious, the school model lessens faculty power and governance by eliminating chairs and any insulation between the Dean and the faculty. NJIT tried this and failed to merge our History and Humanities depts into a school with a single admin structure and no chairs.

to find!! I tried to budget how much it would cost to improve the house insulation (to reduce my self consumption) but that would have costed many times more than just oversizing the solar array and battery system!

Getting a letter from the power company trying to shame me for using more electricity than my neighbors, when my house, and it's windows, are roughly 70-90 years older than my neighbor's houses, on the day I find out that there is no (as in zero) insulation in my exterior walls

I think it's partly because engineers have a culture of precision so formulations like "typical home" are too vague. They ask "is it consumption in summer or winter and do all the houses have insulation, gas fired central heating ... because that significantly affects typical energy consumption"

I'm also a firm believer that "open concept" homes are partly to blame for high divorce rates in the US. Bring back doors that can be shut and insulation that actually blocks noise!
