How to support indie TTRPG designers
1. Stop using a d20 as the de facto symbol for TTRPGs
2. Play our games and tell people how cool they are

I've been meaning to run some indie-punk vampire ttrpgs and i think February is a good time for it, but uh, now I want to throw to get a Girl By Moonlight / (Death) Match Island Mecha campaign for the month...

You are officially becoming a professional, so I don't actually think its unreasonable to assume its of a better quality than what you can get for free. This is a human bias that poisons people against open source software and free indie TTRPGs alike. By putting a price, you are saying its valuable.

a thought:

since I've been addicted to reels on instagram anyway

what if I tried making shortform videos on indie ttrpgs

if I have the time, at least

Something I'm thinking about for 2026 is how to expand Prairie Dragon Press' publishing reach. Beyond The Hearth Magazine, I had the idea that it could serve as an imprint to publish third-party material for small press and indie ttrpgs. Something I see (and folks might disagree) is games that...

Happy 2026, #booksky!

Do you like scrappy little indie bookshops?

There are specific developments in indie TTRPGs that can be traced back to the fact that one guy made a circle out of all his TTRPG friends regardless of sub-community so it became a place where OSR and Storygames just sort of collided.

I'm about to go live over on TikTok if anybody wants to come hang out and talk about the last year in ttrpgs both personally and in the indie space.

Someone whose work I admire both as a host and as a champion for a space like Indie TTRPGs. You are such a force for good in it, and have been for ages.

3. @threadstarters.bsky.social, my effort to expand both tumblr's and my own knowledge of indie ttrpgs. an odd but well-meaning premise that I think deserves some expansion in the new year.

Looking forward to a new healthier year with fun creative opportunities despite the corruption and chaos that surrounds us all.

I'd love to play some great indie TTRPGs, maybe get to do an AP. So thankful for all the people on here that I follow that help me feel connected to the community.

Hey #MAGfest folks!

I'll be at the MITS hall all weekend during MAGfest with some tiny indie ttrpgs!

In addition to selling my games, I'll be demoing Moon Rings and playtesting a new game!

Come say hi!

Absolutely fantastic video covering the wild development of indie ttrpgs over the years (And the constant reminder of somehow always being one degree of seperation away from designer Jay Dragon)

Lots folks posting about indie ttrpgs lately.

This was a great, insightful watch! I got into TTRPGs properly in 2019, so it was especially interesting to learn more about the indie scene leading up to that.

Structure helps players find the solid ground to push off and that's really what it's there to do; which is why a decent chunk of indie ttrpgs can get away with hacking stuff down to the bedrock or focusing only on elements directly related to their theme.

an engine and is literally called The Conversation". Of all the criticism you could levy to the paradigm of the last the years in indie TTRPGs, this is the most baffling thing you could say.

So 90s indie #ttrpgs? Well there were a LOT of generic darlings. FUDGE being the most beloved, but we had CORPS, multiverser, Gatecrasher, S.O.R.D., and almost everybody knew someone with a Highlander rip off rpg. However which one depended on the person.

Then there were the WOD house rules folks
