speaking of botched 2fa, apple offers only SMS authentication or easily guessable "secret questions" as options for second factor beyond your password for iCloud and won't let you even use u2f enroll on web unless you have Apple devices!

oh, it's even worse, I gave in and linked my work macbook to my work icloud account, and immediately had to turn off a bunch of cloud sync because we don't have Apple as a subprocessor, and then I tried to activate proper hw 2fa only to get can't change again for 2 weeks because you just enabled sms

For example, Apple has iCloud Private Relay for Safari browsing. The first “hop” is a server run by Apple itself, so Apple sees IP addresses. But web connections get relayed to a second VPN provider that isn’t Apple: hence Apple can’t link source IPs to destination servers.

Turning off Desktop & Document sync in iCloud instantly fixed the issue for me. Everything became snappy again.
With Optimize Mac Storage & Desktop Sync turned On, performance improved slightly but was still only about half as fast as normal.

if i had understood what icloud was and did i never would have let it back up my photos at all. why would i want that. i back them up by posting them on instagram and making them into physical printed albums in google printshop. i will never lose my phone

It's amazing how AppleTV+ has gone from "oh I get it free with iCloud storage" to "I would absolutely pay for this separately". They really are knocking it out of the park with series at the moment.

Dundee’s Honey Brown was THE most delicious beer I ever had. I think this photo (from around 2010ish) of my empties will prove that. Not sure if it even exists anymore. May have to look into it.
