#houselessness
Truly appreciate @dennycarter.bsky.social’s pushback on the usage of the term “crackdowns.” Applied to everything that authoritarians want to criminalize, including houselessness, it makes the innocent criminal by implication, and implies aggression as the solution. The results are clear, and evil.

well, they belong to the proletarian working class, seen as the phenomena of both unemployment and houselessness are necessary engines of wage control within capitalist society. Garlemald is interesting in that it's industrialized, but still aristocratic, not unlike Britain in the 18th.

Jesus, Chapter 2 was rough… Imagine if we put nearly as much time, energy and money into solving climate change or houselessness as these guys do their sex robots 🫠 So far this is just as compelling as the author’s first book

This is like argument from the right here in the US that giving tents to people living on the streets encourages unsheltered houselessness, even though there aren't enough shelters or housing. Like trying to help them how we can until we solve the systemic problems is the cause of their misery.🐂💩🙃

I don’t wanna hear shit about the Kardashians or Taylor Swift until they stop using their private jets to go to 7/11 and help solve houselessness.

i had a positive TB test in the ‘90s SF requiring 1yr of meds. i got it from a drug recovery meeting & can never give blood again. i’m ever so lucky considering my own IV drug use & houselessness. there is no reason why i’m still alive when so many friends have passed.

Some overcome extraordinary odds, like this scientist who once faced houselessness and went on to earn a PhD 👉 @science.org www.science.org/content/arti...

But no student should have to fight through such conditions just to learn, grow, or dream.

💔 Over 154,000 NYC public school students experienced houselessness last year. @sunyofficial.bsky.social estimates 8% of undergrads and 5% of grad students face housing insecurity.

Columbia's B265-25 targets people experiencing houselessness by criminalizing people in public spaces and threatening 1A rights. It could apply to peaceful protests, fundraising efforts, or distribution of direct services and goods. Tell your Council Member: these are not our values. NO on B265-25.

Policing houselessness and undertaking actions to make housing slower and more expensive… this is failure.

Housing is the solution to houselessness, and creating affordable housing as affordability plummets under this regime is going to continue to be a very intense challenge. It’s going to take a broad based effort to bring back around

Visible houselessness redounds to Republicans politically. Because “crime.”
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

"Sweeping" a homeless encampment is plainly cruel, abusive, and ought to be prosecuted as a crime against humanity. There are myriad studies and orgs which point to good, humane solutions to houselessness, but city leaders are often too lazy, callous, and stupid to bother trying.

This doesn’t work, it’s much more expensive to administer and just wastes money, it leads to less affordable housing, more criminalization, more folks experiencing houselessness, higher unemployment & addiction rates as people struggle more. But that’s the point. Sigh. I hate it here.
The Trump administration plans to slash support for long-term housing programs and shift billions to short-term programs that impose work rules, help the police dismantle encampments, and require the homeless to accept treatment for mental health or addiction.

To all my neighbors and citizens of Placer Navada My houselessness issue? I didn't put it on myself. Every one of us knows what's going on in the community. In all three counties. Including El Dorado County.

Institutionalization and residing in urban counties increases the risk of future houselessness. Over 83% of disabled people in prisons previously lived in another institution. Around 900,000 people under 64 live in healthcare facilities, often due to a lack of affordable housing.

@mayorkwilson.bsky.social claims that the vacancies are a success somehow, instead of a sign something isn’t working with houselessness on the rise. I’m grateful that some of our councillors like @councilormorillo.bsky.social & @councilorgreen.bsky.social are speaking up about this inhumane policy
Mayor Wilson's sweeps and shelters aren't working. "Wilson’s overnight shelters have remarkably high vacancy rates. Data collected by the city and shared with Multnomah County show some shelters up to 80% vacant on average night over a recent two-month period." www.opb.org/article/2025...

Houselessness is a complex issue of which we've managed to address basically none. As a record number of people are dying on our streets and a record number of houseless persons now live on the streets of Portland.

Public property is not a free-for-all. There are rules.

Cop-out answer from you.

The economy is collapsing, the oligarchs are stripping the last vestiges of a social safety net, and even more so than in 2008 many of us are a little bad luck away from houselessness.

Solving this problem is a shared struggle.
