#hosteling
Different youth hostels can have really different experiences but I've never had a BAD experience at a youth hostel

If you want some consistency I'd stick with the Hosteling International brand (1/2)

that time at the wrestling when there was a bloke in the crowd with a sign that said "youth hosteling with chris eubank"

I always appreciated just how darn rural this show initially was! Everything is worn and dirty, even in the cities. These kids are camping and hosteling and eating out of cans, you know they must smell awful. And they're just hoping to compete in what's basically a local sporting event, what a vibe!

This is America revealing its pure parochial blinkered ignorance.
Young people in Europe— including Americans— have been buying Eurail passes and backpacking and Youth Hosteling around for many years.
If you meet some in Waikiki they will ask where the Youth Hostels are located!
We have only the Y.

Yep. The office hosteling has not ended

Guess we’re not supposed to comment on our 20 books, but this one changed me. It sent be around the world many times backpacking and hosteling through my 20s and 30s. Changed my perspective on much of life.

I was recently interviewed by Vice Magazine about my love of hostels and hosteling abroad - even as I have aged. Here it is:

Three Maligned Modern Tourists Defend Themselves
The adult Disney fanatic. The 47-year-old 'youth hosteler'. The private landlord who forces his kids to fly economy.

Last Saturday evening at broadly the same time Ardal O’Hanlon was travelling around Ireland, Alice Roberts was travelling around Greece and Portillo was in Portugal. It won’t too long until we have “Youth Hosteling with Chris Eubank”

I'm a bit surprised to see Holly Willoughby have her TV come back after various issues with TV partners, to be with Bear Fucking Grylls. Bloody hell. What next? Caravanning with Rose West? Skydiving with Nigel Farage? Hosteling with Jonathan King?

“Youth hosteling with Chris Eubank” is literally a better prompt than any gobshite’s ‘vibe coding’ attempts.

He’d be a good candidate for youth hosteling, what with him being so tiny.

WHAT?

Wow.

And to think we laughed at "Youth Hosteling with Chris Eubank".

That's effing brilliant. Overend, legend.

One could probably do a psychological deep dive into some of the places near here. Shout out to Weather Network for modifying their radar map to show “Cape Disappointment” and “Cape Flattery.”

(Had one of my best hosteling experiences [1994] ever at Cape Disappointment, oddly!)

I can't recall where but as a student hosteling thru Germany we hiked upwards a small mountain to get to a Trappist brewery and stumbled our way back down the same mountain later
November 14, 2025 at 3:25 PM
Thank you. That’s the first proper “ mountain “ I climbed. Aged 15 hosteling.
