Yesterday @pats-musings.bsky.social essentially called me a Star Trek geek...
I'm sat here listening to him and his dad talk about model train sets and the guages available and the modern controllers now in use.... but who made the better trains Hornby? Possibly not.. apparently

And I'm the geek

Why did Hornby choose TT over N guage?

What is going on with auto correct these days? It's so bad, in every app. WhatsApp changed "safe journey" to "date Hornby",my SMS app changed "see you later" to "may not plane"! Once good software enshittified by the LLM disease. What a joke.

If you put in the hours, you're welcomed without question into a new family. Except, in this family, you all cheer for the same people and hope for the same things.
-- Nick Hornby
Some people don't follow sports at all & I get it, but the people who don't see the appeal at all I think are missing that it isn't actually just about the sports—it's the communal experience and it's tradition & running jokes (that go back generations) & shenanigans both marketed & spontaneous.

Really hope tonight’s episode is just Tony explaining how he’s going to incorporate the new Hornby steam engine he got for Christmas into his model railway layout, I’ve had enough drama #TheArchers

Santa got me this Hornby Coal Drop which is a great match for the one that used to exist at Bath Green Park. Original pic, Ivo Peters from The Somerset and Dorset, Then and Now by Mac Hawkins

Indeed - a slippery slope I feel. Not only a financial sink and space taker, but also a massive time sink. 😅

The locomotives are crazy dear... £400+ for some on Hornby

I've been wanting to buy a hornby e2, give it a dcc jinty chassis, paint them a nice blue, and make it into thomas himself for a while. Maybe even a 009/OO/HO Skarloey layout.

Gordon was made from a regular Hornby Flying Scotsman with a Hornby Gordon tender. He doesn’t run atm cause he’s tender driven so I'll have to get him a new motor. I’m also still undecided whether or not to add lining to him cause I quite like the simplistic look.

Henry I started work on in late 2023 using a Hornby Black 5 as a base. His first coat of green dried unequally meaning I had to sand down the entire model and start again. I took his livery from a real life black 5, where the running board’s colour matches the rest of the body.

Next up is Edward, old reliable, who as with most of these models I started a long time ago. I began work on him in 2023 and used a Hornby D16 as a base, I like its proportions and felt it a good fit for Edward at the time. Since then he’s gone through various colour changes.

Wait, no, it's not the DTES, it's an SRO on Hornby Street, the Murray Hotel. They don't even hide it, there's an establishing shot on the front of the building and everything.

The one call Sudbury's Joe Bowen still hasn’t made for the Maple Leafs
After 44 years of radio and TV with the team and its fans, Bowen knows it might end without a Stanley Cup.

Unfortunately, I'm unwell. I wanted to see some of my family members for Christmas, but I didn't want to make them ill too, so I stayed home all day :(

Otherwise, my Christmas was nice! I got a Bachmann Edward and a Hornby James, so I'm very happy ^^
