As part of the lead-up to the #Hoban100 centenary festivities, there’s a brand-new official Bluesky account for Russell Hoban, managed by @thoughtcat.bsky.social (webmaster for RussellHoban.org) and me. If you’re a fan of Riddley Walker/Turtle Diary/France the badger, etc. please give it a follow!
Hello, Bluesky! This is the official Bluesky account for author Russell Hoban (1925–2011), maintained by the people behind the authorized website at RussellHoban.org. We’ll be sharing news, commentary, quotations, and lots of info about the upcoming #Hoban100 centenary events!

🧵 As I’m choosing material for the upcoming #Hoban100 (Russell Hoban centenary) reading at the Hopleaf, I noticed that my copy of Egg Thoughts and Other Frances Songs was missing so I ordered a used copy. It just arrived and inside the front cover it’s stamped with the words PROPERTY OF BRIDGETTE G.

It’s Russell Hoban’s centenary today. To mark that, here’s a piece I wrote about the profound mysteries and mischiefs of his work for The Quietus a couple of years ago. open.substack.com/pub/mathewly...

Wow, nice to meet you! I found you because I saw that you had reshared the Hoban100 event on Facebook. But I had no idea that you were Eli's mom. He's a great guy and we've been friends since I founded the Hoban website years ago.

It's not quite Hoban Day everywhere yet, but it will be soon! 🦉🎈 #Hoban100
In case you've been wondering why I've been posting daily quotations from Russell Hoban's novels, today, 4 February 2025, would have been the author's 100th birthday. A colour version of this portrait by John Carey hangs on my home studio wall. I miss his wise words and sense of humour. RIP, Russ.

It's wonderful to see so many people continuing to discover this book, especially as it hits its 50th anniversary (in the same year that Russ would have turned 100). 🐢📚#Hoban100

"There was about Jachin-Boaz an aura of seeking and finding that customers responded to. People who for years had not looked for things in books found new appetites for knowledge when they spoke to him."

🧵 Depending on where you are in the world, it might already be February 4, 2025—and if it isn’t, it will be soon. So happy 100th birthday to the waves and particles that used to be Russell Hoban! Thanks for all the beautiful words and for helping to enlarge the limited-reality consensus. #Hoban100

Let 100 ghost-lions roar. 🦁
Let 100 voyaging turtles swim out to sea. 🐢
Let 100 lovesick owls tap-dance in the light of a rainy taxi cab. 🦉
