Writing historical romance: Where I spend hours researching whether they had forks yet, then write a bodice-ripping scene. Priorities. #AuthorLife #HistRom

My hero thinks he's rescuing my heroine from ruin. She's actually rescuing HIM from his boring life. This realization hits him in chapter 14. *evil author laugh* #PlotTwist #HistRom

do you like histrom and fantasy? if so, I absolutely recommend the last binding trilogy by freya marske. I haven’t yet read the last one (just got it from the library) but I loved the first two. there’s a connecting story between them but each book centers on different characters

Ok #romancelandia (especially histrom readers), inquiring minds want to know: any recs for wallflower romances that fully embrace the trope that were published in the last 5 or so years?

The more I research, the more I realize "proper" Regency ladies were absolutely FERAL. The affairs! The gambling! The secret political influence! #RegencyEra #HistRom #Inspiration

same publisher picked up a regency romance and it’ll be interesting how well their promo and book positioning in stores will sell it. they’re promoting it as a histrom for Emily Henry fans and if Carrie Bradshaw wrote a regency romance.

so. they’re throwing things at the ideas wall for sure.

I know there’s not as much audience overlap but y’all should’ve said this histrom was for the dark romance readers. I would’ve picked this up faster.

The MMC is like a mesh of James Roth (Singed series by Mia Knight) and Killian Carson (God of Malice by Rina Kent).

Historical romance is teaching modern readers that women have ALWAYS been fierce. We just weren't allowed to write it down. Until now. #HistRom #StrongWomen #AmWriting

lol I know I’ve read at least three historical romances where “made-up spouse turns out to be real” 😂

So glad you’re enjoying Alexandra Vasti! Histrom seems to be in a bit of a downturn lately but she’s a real bright spot.

Reminder: When they call your historical heroine "ahead of her time," they're erasing the REAL women of that era who were equally fierce. They existed. We're just finally writing them. #HistRom

not sure if you’ve seen the discussions from the past months but even big authors in histrom aren’t getting contracts signed for new historicals and that’s why you see their names now in genres like romantasy instead.

trad pub has absolutely no idea what to do with them

Noodles?! LMAO. That’s a name for an internet famous animal, not a histrom FMC.

I didn’t want to spend $50 on ebooks that no one had ever read when the kickstarter was running, so I was waiting for the wide release sometime down the line next year or so

so now I’m curious if their next Kickstarter will be all new histrom works or special editions for old works

The best part of writing historical fiction? Creating women who would absolutely have been called "difficult" in their time. That's code for "interesting." #HistRom #StrongHeroines

reading and falling in love with the Thomas Hawkins series really did a number on me because what do histrom readers mean when they reject period accurate mentions of a man with his (possibly containing lice) powdered wig 😔😂

I keep trying to read histrom and I’m going to eventually find something that clicks. it just hasn’t been working so far.
November 3, 2025 at 5:05 AM
sometimes I think about the fake!historical romance book and I think I want to actually read the whole thing this time.

it wasn’t promoted as a histrom or anything. it’s a dark romance. the MMC was gaslighting the FMC into thinking she was stuck in the Victorian era and it was so weird.

it’s unclear whether or not there are going to be kids in my neighborhood trick or treating this year so I stopped by the store to grab some candy last minute. and here’s a look at some books at Walmart.

that Mate edition is GREEN lol and how fun they’re stocking a polyam histrom book.

Read it. As I said several times elsewhere in the replies, I'm a book critic who writes about BIPOC and queer speculative fiction. I'm extremely aware of fantasy. Don't need recs there. Just for histrom.
October 29, 2025 at 1:26 PM
Lol definitely aware. Like I said, if it's even tangentially in the fantasy space as, I most likely already know about it. My work as a critic is mostly covering speculative fiction by queer and BIPOC authors. It's regular histrom I'm having a much harder time with.

For sure, but as far as I know, he doesn't have an M/M histrom full length novel
October 28, 2025 at 8:09 PM
I read a metric ton of fantasy, so I already know what's out there in that space. I'm strictly looking for histrom.
