Are there risks in allowing participants to choose pseudonyms? Should this matter in qualitative research, particularly in relation to authenticity and rigour?

Now at Jo Dargusch's preso on how time impacts equity students. It's one resource that equity students often don't have.

What are the ethical implications of rejecting a participant’s chosen pseudonym if it’s perceived as inappropriate, identifying, or overly symbolic? Who gets to decide what is "appropriate"?

What about #GenAI?
57% of students admitted verbatim copying from GenAI (& these students are also engaging in other forms of #misconduct). Students who cheated before, still cheat with AI. Having AI detector at the uni doesn’t have a statistical impact

Corbin points out that AI tools often guide our students on what to read. This is really really scary!!

Good news - this is why we need educators. To curate the reading and make sure students aren’t just reading the dominant texts of our disciplines #HERDSA2025

How do our own privileges affect how we react to names that seem unfamiliar or political and what does this say about how inclusive or ethical our research really is?

Keen to hear what Misty Wai-Cook has been doing on feedback literacy. Alas she's stuck with the choice between using the clicker or holding the mic.

I tried #HERDSA2025 but the lapel mic didn't want to connect!

There was a q around why the education focused roles exists?

We know why. Several gov policies around reducing casual or sessional teachers, as well as growing professionalisation of courses, where many educators don’t have PhDs - or don’t excel at research.

I also like Esterhazy’s notion of feedback as an event (didn’t @kgravett.bsky.social also write on this?)

I like nuancing the type of feedback, from the banal, the expected, to the transformation. In the latter, it really feeling like a moment. #HERDSA2025
