We ported our #linux app, Jorts, to #Windows!
Theres couple papercuts, like the keyboard shortcuts not showing in tooltips, but it works!
On the right, click on release "3.5.0", theres an installer. Doesnt require admin rights!

"Back in the early 2000s, there was a loose effort to establish an open-source, GTK-based office suite from the sum of existing parts. The 1.0 release (Sept., 2003) consisted of AbiWord 2.0, Gnumeric 1.2.0, and GNOME-DB 1.0": It's Time to Bring Back GNOME Office (Hope You Remember It)

Those who used GNOME 2 in the 2000's would remember the now forgotten GNOME Office. I think it's time to revive that project.

i should fork lightdm-gtk-greeter just to fix one minor cosmetic bug. i should put it in nixpkgs and expand nix-options with better support for it. i should rewrite lightdm in rust. i should rewrite xorg in rust

Do snaps have any integration with the windowing service besides mounting sockets and getting full access? Is there any advantage of snaps GUI applications vs docker container GUI apps?
Compatibility with libraries (eg GTK) is completely dependent on what's packaged in the container/squashfs

Mielenkiintoista nähdä, millainen keskustelu = huuto tästä tosiaan alkaa. Ei voi väittää että tässä olisi ollut vain agendatutkijoita laskemassa, kun mukana GTK, VTT, Syke ja Luke.

heh true! limitations are great. i just despise gnome, libawaita and to a certain extent GTK design in general a bit too much 😅. its a bit antithetical to how i want to use my PC. at that point plasma with a shitty script is still closer to my ideal setup

I really enjoy editing photos with darktable. To the point where I'm considering building a Linux PC just for photo editing. Darktable's UI is kind of spotty, and part of me thinks is because of running a gtk app on macOS

I really enjoy using WSL for Linux development directly on my Win11 host. Surprisingly, it's super-efficient, achieving around 98% of bare-metal perf. Plus, you can run Linux GUI applications by including the GTK sources. It's the best of both worlds and excellent for *platform dev and C++ work.

Particulate accumulated matter as an indicator of coastal benthic habitat condition - Ambio
Eutrophication adversely affects coastal areas, but most indicators of eutrophication demonstrate temporal or large-scale changes in eutrophication. These usually cannot be used in local actions, such as restoration or conservation. Eutrophication also results in increased accumulation of particulate matter and here we assess the usefulness of particulate accumulated matter (PAM) as an indicator for marine habitat condition in the northern Baltic Sea. We use > 50 000 observations of PAM, to spatially model the accumulation of PAM at shallow benthic substrates, and subsequently demonstrate the use of PAM as an indicator for benthic habitat quality. Predictions show only 4.8% of the shallow marine area as not affected by PAM and the abundance of PAM negatively affected the occurrence of Fucus habitats. Estimates of amount of PAM can be used for determining areas that will benefit from restoration and nutrient abatement actions and for locating the most pristine areas in need of conservation action.
