HVDC is the key to a national grid.
That is why the Federal Liberals provided support for an HVDC equipment manufacturer in Canada to expand.
There is also support for AC equipment companies that will connect the HVDC to the regular grids.

just abandon heavy grids and stuff and tell them they're up for grabs for free since they can't fly back with them. it's not uncommon for people to just amazon order grids or other display things to the show location, fly in,

I value the art form of coherence. You see it in game design, where the goal is to allow as many possibilities to flourish under a limited vocabulary of mechanics and interactions. You see it in design by constraint, when artists restrict themselves to monochrome or pixel grids

Solar Storm Incoming: How a Massive CME Could Cripple Global IT Infrastructure and What You Need to Do Now
Introduction: A significant Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is en route to Earth, posing a substantial threat not just to power grids but to the very backbone of our digital society. These solar events can induce powerful Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GICs) that threaten everything from satellites and power transformers to ground-based data centers and communication networks. For cybersecurity and IT professionals, this represents a large-scale, physical-world threat that requires immediate and informed mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity.

Blocking data centers in WA is a lose-lose.
We export good union jobs.
We export our climate responsibilities to states with dirtier grids.
It's time to stop the infighting and focus on the real solution: building a modern, clean energy grid right here in Washington.

At #COP30, VP Fayolle reaffirms our commitment to the green energy transition in both the EU and Latin America.

From scaling up renewables to supporting energy grids, the EIB is driving climate action across continents.

Imagine a world where energy is always on, thanks to smart grids with savvy meters and storage solutions—think batteries, pumped hydro, and even hydrogen. Homes and businesses can share energy like pros, cutting costs and keeping the lights on. Say goodbye to blackouts and high bills!

The Hidden Backdoors in Your Factory: A Hacker’s Guide to OT/ICS Network Ports
Introduction: Operational Technology (OT) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) form the backbone of critical infrastructure, from power grids to manufacturing plants. While traditionally isolated, the convergence of IT and OT networks has exposed these vital systems to a new wave of cyber threats, with network ports and protocols serving as the primary attack vector. Understanding and securing these communication channels is no longer an IT niche but a fundamental requirement for ensuring national and economic security.

Nuclear will be absolutely necessary as a baseline especially for dense metros and industrial regions

But with improving storage and localized small scale generation improving (eg, home solar), I hope we get to the point where most residential grids don't need significant external power.

Backed by Spanish export credit agency CESCE, we’re supporting Panama’s energy transition with a $300 million loan to Naturgy.

The project will modernise the country’s power grids, improving reliability, efficiency and access to energy for homes and businesses.

1) Arm Ukraine with more than enough long-reach cruise and ballistic missiles, and drones to take out every legitimate critical infrastructure target: non-nuclear power plants, oil refineries, pipelines, petrochemical plants, ports, railway hubs, airports, factories, bridges, tunnels, energy grids..
🤬Russia wants to seize Ukraine in three stages, 2026 will be decisive, – Foreign Affairs.

▪️First – hold the annexed regions and capture Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Odesa, cutting Ukraine off from the Black Sea;
▪️Second – economic and political pressure with the threat of a new invasion.

this making me remember this film I saw as a kid where jazz was represented by a montage of Mondrian paintings... all primary colors on grids, but bouncing around the screen as the compositions switched.. don't remember the exact music playing as much... something bebop -ish I think

I went to data centre alley in Virginia last year to learn more about the constraints on electricity grids, and how the power required to meet AI’s data processing demands - which will dwarf the current power requirements of data centres - is an existential problem.
Una Mullally: The man in Data Centre Alley couldn’t conceal his shock. ‘You’re screwed’
In the US, data centres will be powered by small modular nuclear reactors to help cope with demands of AI. What is the plan for Ireland?
