We took off and went birding one day. I didn't bring my real camera, so no photo worth sharing of the lifer Gray-headed Swamphen family we watched through binocs, but there were some cooperative archosaurs right by and on the road at Lake Apopka.

I made a birb~
His name is Nico, a great-tailed grackle. He's a chill, laid-back guy, but can also be smug, sharp, and even playful at times. He wears colorful clothes, probably. He rarely takes off his beanie though. And yeah, when he's in sizey situations, he's the big guy~

Me waking up on the west coast and looking at the news 🪶

This morning’s #10minuteMerlin 🖤

I’m working on IDing a new-to-me call that Merlin hasn’t been able to ID, it was very active this morning. A long high pitched whistle. I haven’t seen the bird yet, so I hope that happens soon!

Also, here’s an expressive grackle who drank water right beside me and then looked at me like, “What? You talkin’ to me? You got somethin’ for me? What?” 😁

Common is important because unlike other grackles they aren't terribly sexually dimorphic - the females are just a little less shiny

One of the reasons I love grackles. Can never mistake a grackle.

Or a common grackle (kinda the same thing going on because they look like a corvid but they're at least smarter than an owl)
