I found this beautiful gourd at an antique store today, and the only thing I know about it is that I love it.

An ornately decorated gourd on a wooden table. The gourd has been cut into a top and bottom with a crenellated line. The entire surface has been shallowly carved and painted with animals; dogs, cats, birds, fish, squirrels, and rabbits. The animals are painted white, and the background and interior of the gourd are deep red. A detail of the gourd showing a pair of owls and other animals. Fine details of eyes, beaks, feathers, etc. were incited into the work before it was painted. The unknown artist may have been inspired by cameo carving.

I decided to try my hand at wood burning. It is so much harder than it looks. I did this gourd I dried last year. It’s my avant gard way of depicting a dahlia flower. A novice for sure. I glazed it with natural dyes.
