Onto the unit itself, which is lovely. It's heavy, it's metal, and it's shiny. It is never referred to as the Q however, and the Q logo does not appear. It's always a SL-GC10 or DVD/Game Player.

The box of the SL-GC10-S is a simple affair, more typical of a household appliance than a games machine. No reference to Nintendo, and only a couple of small Gamecube logos. There is the nice Q logo which is unique to the system.

SN100C is the nicest for filament solder, the patent expired a while ago so more companies produce it now.
For pastes the flux matters the most. The GC series from Multicore/Loctite (now Harima) is great. GC10 gotten very popular on ex Electronics Twitter

It was also my first board that I ditched chipquick paste for and tried out loctite gc10 for. I think I'm a convert. There were almost no solder balls after reflow.
Unrelated, if anyone wants some solder paste let me know, there's no way I'm going to use a 600 gram tube before it expires.
