I was reading a paper about 'ethanol consumption via frugivory in wild chimpanzees', basically a paper about chimps getting ripshit eating old pomegranates, and when I hit the word 'frugivore' I was Iike ah yes the world has prepared me to understand the root word 'vore'

Frugivory (fruit feeding) by Oriental Magpie-Robin (Copsychus saularis) considered rare but I have seen a number of episodes at 7 different trees. Here taking Macaranga heynei (Blue Mahang) fruit.

these birds lived in europe and north america during the eocene, represented by the genera messlastur and tynskya. if they are indeed close relatives of parrots, it could suggest an ancestrally carnivorous state for psittaciformes, with frugivory and herbivory evolving later

“frugivory” = new term to me. thank you! exciting that it applies to our area too (zone 11). my partner eats fruit almost exclusively, she’s our frugivore rep.

Nu gooi ze ze weg - ik doe er immers niets mee. #ontspullen

Ethanol ingestion via frugivory in wild chimpanzees

Chimpanzees typically eat ~4.5 kilograms of fruit per day, corresponding to an estimated ethanol ingestion of 14 grams (±9), or the equivalent of 1.4 (±0.9) standard drinks by international standards.
