#fossilexplainer
I have finally gotten back to work on drafting more #fossilexplainer comics for the book - I've been feeling like illustrating key taphonomic concepts. Here's nos. 63 and 64, on preservation bias - soft v. hard tissue preservation, and preservation as it relates to environment 🐡🦖🧪 #sciart

#sharkweek #fossilexplainer It's common knowledge that sharks are covered in dermal denticles, but skates and rays take it to an extreme - and leave behind all sorts of weird, large, dermal denticles in the fossil record. M=Myliobatidae, eagle rays; R=Rajidae, skates; D=Dasyatidae, stingrays.

I haven't posted much #sciart on here yet, but I am working on a series of illustrations in my #fossilexplainer series, with the end goal of being able to produce a book. This one is to help ID 'requiem' (carchariniform) sharks: tiger, reef, lemon, hammerhead sharks.

Also for #portfolioday: here's a teaser for a book project I'm working on titled Fossil Explainer - #watercolor diagrams illustrating various concepts in paleontology/earth sciences, targeted towards fossil enthusiasts. I have 50 of these done now. #fossilexplainer #scicomm
