This book was not for me. There is a lot of grimness at the start. Characters were underdeveloped. I liked the world. The 3 gods, 3 peoples, each with a different form of magic
In particular the prophecies were very cool. On the romance side of things could really take it or leave it.

When cursed trans Prince Casper Sweetwater is caught and forced to live as his deadname, he thinks all hope is lost. He’s to be married off to a stranger, and to make sure he doesn’t run away, he’s been assigned a constant elven guard named Darrow Broadside. Desperate to return to the rebellion planning to kill the king, Casper realizes that his only chance of survival, to live as his true self will be if he breaks his curse. He enlists the assistance of a palace mage to help. She discovers that the cure to the curse is in Darrow’s homeland, which means that Casper cannot be cured unless he leaves. Casper must figure out how to escape the palace while dodging his suitor and his shadow. The only problem is, Darrow is very handsome and shockingly kind, and Casper is very gay. He must fight off distraction (or invite it in) to have any hope of freedom.

With Faebound, Saara wanted to challenge the notion of elves and fae being light-skinned, blond and blue-eyed. She also drew influences from vampires to design the “races” of her characters. Her creatures are influenced by the wildlife of West Africa and Chatsworth, where she spend her childhood.

I kept reading Faebound because of the effect it was having on my brain (reading a bad book makes you think about what a good book looks like and what you want yours to be). It's still pretty average. Not horrible, not great. It's mostly in "this needed a lot more work before publishing" territory.
