Today in history: 8 Jul 1987 - Spangdahlem Air Base , Germany, activates with F-16C/D's, joining the F-4G Wild Weasels on defense suppression hunter/killer teams. This NATO air base with the United USAF as a tenant was constructed between 1951 and 1953.

In a historic operation, a Ukrainian Viper pilot successfully intercepted and destroyed 6 Russian cruise missiles, using 2 AIM-120 and 2 AIM-9 missiles and the 6-barrel 20mm M61 Vulcan cannon.

Exactly 25 years ago, the first new production block 52 F-16C/D aircraft to incorporate color cockpits was delivered to the Republic of Singapore Air Force as part of the Peace Carvin III program.

Today 22 years ago, the Conformal Fuel Tank (CFT) tests on the F-16 were completed. The F-16 used for this was N°87353. Note how the official #LMTAS image seems to be altered to hide the large orange cover closing the gunport.
