#extinguish
All across London, menorahs were vandalized.

This week, the darkness has seemed insurmountable.

But remember: They may destroy our candles, but they will never extinguish our light.

Thermodynamics 101: if air heats, it will expand. If it is in an enclosed space, it will either extinguish or the space will expand.

The space expanded. By which I mean the whole of St Paul’s exploded.

What we know today is entirely Wren’s new post-fire construction.

"If we can salvage one bit of light from this moment—maybe even just a spark—it’s that while Trump’s rule is punishing, it is not impenetrable. We can extinguish his hate by being the light."
I wrote about the multiple tragedies of the last few days, Hanukkah, Trump and how the forces of light and dark are trapped in a battle for our souls.
Flaming out
Trump may beckon darkness, but he can never extinguish the light.

it's the hill you're willing to sacrifice other people to die on, though. that's what this is. it's a genocidal movement. they want to extinguish trans people and i would rather die on this hill than abandon my trans friends and comrades on it.

Embrace, extend, extinguish. The old Microsoft playbook. Every big platform used to use XMPP for messaging, too, but Facebook closed theirs up, then Google followed suit, and now you need proprietary clients.

Okay, it's back. It's back now. They fixed it. You can extinguish the torches. You can put the pitchforks back in the hayshed.

It’s the second night of Chanukah.

Let the burning candles help to extinguish all the hate that has become so prominent in recent days.

It is clear to decent Australians the NACC was deliberately crippled by the Duopoly - both Labor/LNP IPA working together to extinguish a threat to their power and institutionalised corruption

Change comes when the Duopoly is gone

Australians are disgusted

Why the NACC faces an exceptional challenge to ensure integrity
Few issues unite progressive and conservative voters. Ending corruption is one of the few exceptions.

We combatted the far right in the past by pushing them into obscure corners where their ideas didn’t get oxygen.

Ideas are like fire. They need oxygen to breathe and grow. Deprive them of fuel (people), and oxygen (sharing those ideas with people), and they gradually extinguish.
These people want leftist and liberals to come back to Twitter so badly. They give all kinds of reasons, but the fact is without them the Nazi bar marinates in its own juices and they can't stand it.

Two people tried to extinguish the light of Chanukah through murderous violence.

But was is one man, Ahmed al-Ahmed, whose flashlight shone through the darkness they wrought, a reminder of Chanukah’s message that in the longest of nights, a tiny flame can dispel much darkness.

As the demented paedophile turns up the heat on Venezuela and Columbia, absolutely and totally fucks up Europe, not to mention going war with it's own population, there is a flame burning that it cannot extinguish.

Let’s call Jimmy Lai’s “trial” what it is: a grave miscarriage of justice. The Chinese government tries to extinguish press freedom in Hong Kong by jailing voices like his, but it will fail.

The U.S. must continue to push for his release.

A moment of silence at @europarl.europa.eu today following the horrific terror attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney.

The story of Hannukah tells us that no terror can ever extinguish the flickering light of these days of hope.

You know when you try to snuff out a candle, but the flame persists— shining despite the attempts to extinguish it? That’s the image I’m carrying into Chanukkah.

Whenever one tries to control others’ speech and behavior, there will be backlash.

The era of stifling political correctness is exactly what gave birth to Trump.

Trumpism is a house fire and its oxygen is left-wing priggishness. To extinguish the MAGA movement, drop political correctness.

Chag Chanukah Sameach, and may the light drive out the darkness. This year, lighting my menorah is just as much an act of defiance as it is a celebration. I will not allow anyone to extinguish my light. To my mishpocha, be safe, and remember together we are stronger than the darkness.

More than a little sad how well Actraiser's social commentary holds up.
I mean, I'd use a harsher word than "silly", but immortal beings look at things differently.

Settled down in a nest of soft, black bedding, cradled and supported by pillows. Candles flickering. Sandalwood and peaches, oddly, scent the air. A rustle of pages sussurs. Lights lower gently. A breath of vapor, a sigh. Lights extinguish. Night, enters. Words, fewer. Self, diffuses.

Good

Night!

And still, we light.

We light because we understand something essential: that the act of kindling flame in the face of those who would extinguish us is itself holy resistance. That refusing to disappear is a form of prayer.
