Can anyone recommend any accessible non-eugenics-y books on Evolutionary Development (Evo Devo) and Evolutionary Psychology? 📚 🧪

Indeed, the red cell precursor from hypoblast is mesenchymal and EMT+. What’s more, they are molecularly and functionally similar to phagocytes. What does it mean? Phagocytes are one of the oldest immune cells in evo-devo. What if hypoblast repurposed a phagocyte to give a new role? Carry oxygen? 7/

My sense is that the evo-devo literature is full of examples where single mutations explain some trait difference, but I think that gives a biased view of how traits change more generally. The bias comes from liking a "good story".

Reading a Julius Schaxel article via @jamescrane.bsky.social translation. It’s so inspiring seeing a Marxist scientist reading and integrating science and philosophy like this. Anticipated evo-devo before its formalization! It’s also interesting how he’s still ahead of time w/ some philbio topics!

Is our Mountainous Exile in Death Stranding ending with the Evo-Devo Biologist? That titles sounds like Ubbi Dubbi to me.

i don't know the whole story behind it but iirc it came from evo-devo people studying lungfish and being like "wait a minute this nerve cluster, this gene, etc exists in mammals too" and then trying it on rats and pigs and finding it worked

Interesting work. Didn't think evo-devo framework could be applied like this. Will keep this paper on my weekend reading list.

Together, we present a evo-devo model for evolutionary innovation that links patterns to mechanisms, and show principles underlying 3 types of innovations of great interest. The model can hopefully inform a broad type of traits, and I'm excited to think about potential applications! 11/11
