an autobiography to raise awareness about my rare congenital disability. there's only 1 medical paper about someone being born without an epiglottis and i feel like we need a touching biography/documentary on the subject so people can see how much harder daily life is when people dont understand you

epiglottis can be relaxed to allow the mouth and nostrils to connect to the anus simultaneously, the eustachian tube terminates at the eardrum and thus does not impact count

This is absolute insanity! I remember when epiglottis killed kids. The HiB vaccine has been another game changer in saving countless lives! But these fools don’t even know what H. influenza is. Shhhhhhh…. Don’t tell them. They’ll call to revoke it as well. Why only polio?

Unfortunately I experienced these cases my first 2 years of residency. Having pediatric patients with septic joints from HIB was also common. I even had a couple of epiglottis patients. I have not seen these disease processes in many years thanks to vaccination.

When I was a junior trainee in the 90’s, all the experienced senior anaesthetists had a story to tell about infants suffocating and dying. Their airway closing up from Hib epiglottis.
Because of the Hib vaccine, none of my generation have seen epiglottis in kids. It’s gone in Australia.
