Showy male Cardinal in the Eleagnus outside the dirty window.

Here it is December, & the crabapples are still lighting up this tree in the sun like Christmas decorations. Usually the birds have stripped them by now, but there just aren't so many birds around this year. They did get all the tiny crabapples from 2 other trees, & the Eleagnus & Mtn Ash berries 🌱

Excellent - thanks everyone! Looks like we're settled on Eleagnus and possible E umbellatus.

I have an eleagnus bush that smells exactly like my mother’s “mid century”White Shoulders perfume. A walk through a blooming garden can be a walk through time.

The smaller domes are Pittosporum 'Tom Thumb' and the larger are Eleagnus ebbingei 'Compacta'

We’ve a number of Eleagnus around the garden. The flowers are tiny. But, boy, do they pack a punch with perfume. Exquisite!

Before and After

I reached my 2025 invasive removal goal last week. The two images show the final 150' or so of my target area on August 21 and September 19. Most of the invasives removed were autumn-olive (Eleagnus umbellata) and multi-floral rose (Rosa multiflora). 🌰🌿

I was trying to place the pleasant scent teasing my nostrils. Then I realized it was the Edding's Silverberry (Eleagnus ebbingei) by the driveway wafting in through the windows. I went out and plucked a few sprigs. You wouldn't think such tiny blossoms could produce so much sweetness.

No this isn't autumn, it's drought stressed trees 😲

A worrying sight in many areas right now, noticing many dead evergreens, wilting leaves on Eleagnus and Laurel, dead limbs on many trees.

Pic taken today in Shepperton, Surrey.

I have not had them spread at all and the bush is a fairly refined shape. Can't really go by me though because none of the Eleagnus are weedy in my climate zone 5, and the two in zone 7 have only been there about 3 years.

I've thought about planting a goumi. Are they weedy like some of the other Eleagnus?

??? fuck the eleagnus I have killed so much of it

Another rain. Another sunset.

First step was removal (mostly by hand) of invasive species like English ivy, liriope, vinca, privet, eleagnus, stiltgrass. Found a few natives that began to flourish with the competing exotics removed. We had violets and two types of native ferns growing here already.

Autumn olive (Eleagnus umbrellata) is native to Eastern Asia. In our area this shrub is highly invasive. In early May you can feel the aroma of its flowers in many local forests, particularly in Delaware Gap.
