I used to make Solarized prints in the darkroom. It was complex to work with color and I used 4x5 ecktachrome and registration pins to create the separate lithographic negatives and then re-expose the final positive with the stack of negatives & subtractive filters. A bear to do.

I was an Ecktachrome man, myself - since I tended to use natural light and I shot mostly landscape. No pretty faces. I never owned a flash until I moved to digital from slide film. Nikon cameras came with one built in. I bracketed my shots since I was guessing on exposures.
