Sorry to be late with the weekly #dunnettquote.
We make it short, too.

Nothing to see here? Well, this is a slow moving 🧵 for #skystorians and others about #eyeglasses of the past, about how to read in the past, where to buy eyeglasses, and how to do with them in general. The hashtag is #HowToDoWithGlassesInThePast

Let's roll.

This is fun!
A neat tool I just came across: Viabundus, a digital road map of northern Europe 1350-1650, that lets you calculate contemporary travel routes/times. In 1500, going Amiens → Köln by horse took almost 7 days and 13 toll payments.

The good folk at BBC's Radio Orkney interviewed me last week about the #SagaoftheEarlsofOrkney which will be available in bookshops here this coming week. You can listen to it here at 17'30" in www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... Can I convert those who have never quite managed to get through it???

I did it. I made a renfaire costume.

I used @thetudortailor.bsky.social ‘s typical Tudor, remnant upholstery fabric, and a lot of muslin. I also used the serger and shortcuts.

And @gftomatoes.bsky.social saved my sourdough starter.

Excruciating library conversation in the rear-view mirror. Many thoughts but I want to get a bit further to see how it all connects in my head.

The victory banquet remains one of the funniest things I’ve ever read (it’s night-at-the-opera-stateroom material)(make that three hard-boiled eggs!) and I love how he is just goofy with P.

Then, of course …

Grudgingly, I am bowing to the master. The poor communication makes more sense with the knowledge I now have. I plan to be curmudgeonly until I get to [ ]’s daughter though. It was a bad week for focused reading with too many late activities but next week will be better.

Read @lollardfish.bsky.social ‘s Oathbreakers - great read about the dissolution of the Frankish empire. Goes quickly, with a nice tone that keeps it moving, and very informative.

Now for those of a delicate disposition you may want to avoid reading Simonn Hedges epic poem that I mentioned yesterday - The Ballad of Leonard Bailey - which is on his very old website at www.simonhedges.com/bailey.htm
